Common cold, unreasonable to worry?

My daughter (a few weeks shy of a 1 year old) has a cold (not her first).

She's totally fine in herself, full of usual smiles, only cries when I wipe her nose (outrageous of me, right?!), still sleeping fine, taking plenty milk, wet and dirty nappies, extra fluids but absolutely no solids! Will not even look at anything off a spoon, she gags as soon as food goes in her mouth (even her favourites)!

I'm assuming this is because her nose is so stuffed up (cold seems to be all in her nose, she's soo snotty) and she can't taste anything.

I've nothing really to worry about as long as she's taking plenty fluids and milk?

Is it just today that she's not eaten?

If so, I wouldn't worry yet.

My DD (just turned 1) has been ill for a week, one of the symptoms being a reduced appetite. I took her to the GP today who was not in the least bit concerned; she just said it's a virus.

As long as she's having either breastmilk or formula she'll be getting some nutrients. Having said that, on day 3 of no eating solids at all I probably would start worrying and then of course it'll be the weekend!

My doctor said as long as hydrated and taking milk he doesnt start worrying until the hunger strike exceeds a week! I'm not sure if this is official NHS policy but he was nonplussed at my wringing hands and sure enough she started eating mountains of toast the very next day.

Ate nothing yesterday, refused porridge this morning, I expect once her nose clears up a bit then she may eat some. Managed two little spoonfuls of porridge this morning before gagging, an improvement on yesterday where she managed nothing.

I wouldn't fancy porridge with a cold it doesn't taste very nice! When mine are poorly they love an ice lolly, most fruit, and I can sometimes get them to eat toast. If your LO is full of mucas and catarrh I'd keep offering food but not worry too much if they didn't eat a lot till the cold has cleared up.

She's not quite as snotty today, so hope I'll see an improvement!

Food isn't a worry when they're ill as long as they're drinking. I don't like eating with a cold. You can't breathe, chewing can hurt sore ears and blocked sinuses, everything tastes bleuch.

Hope she's on the up and up!
