Looking for recommendations for anfood child friendly sun cream. I've used Boots Soltan cream for years out of habit, but my 2 DD's (9 & 6) absolutely hate the thick cream. Just wondering whether it's worth a change but not knowing what to change to!

I bought some from M&S at the weekend, factor 50 roll on. easy to apply and dries quickly. It goes on green but is clear when rubbed in, not at all thick. 5 star uv rating too.

I like the P20 spray. It’s expensive but I bought it two years ago when we were away and it was urgent. It goes on well and none of us have ever burnt with it and I burn looking out the window.
It’s waterproof although of course reapply if been in water just to be safe but you can see the water actually sitting on top of the sunscreen.
Dd missed a bit when applying last year and that was the only bit of her that changed colour.

We use p20 too - I burn really, really easily and it will protect me through a 2 hour swim session in the lake or outdoor pool no problem, or all day walking around.

You do need to apply it to clean skin and let it dry - so we shower and then apply and wibble around for 10 minutes before dressing, but then you are done

Another vote for P20. I'm very fair skinned (I actually burned on a warm day in March in the UK once!)

We were lucky enough to go to Disney Florida a few years ago. Out in the sun all day on and off. One application of P20 and not a burn in sight. You can actually feel your skin is still cool to the touch with it on - that's how I know if we do need a second application. It's not greasy at all, it's a liquid rather than a cream. It does have a bit of an alcohol smell to begin with but that goes within seconds of applying.

I put factor 50 on DS when he was younger and he'd do a full day at school with no problem at all.

P20 is great. Ultrasun is also good and not thick/greasy. Also Banana Boat is pretty quickly absorbed, though watch the UVA rating on some of them.

Ontopofthesunset · 09/05/2018 19:56

I used to use Ultrasun 30 or 50 on the children before the school day. It has a different texture so isn't so gloopy when it goes on. You have to wait for 15 minutes with the Ultrasun like the P20 but it is good protection. They do a Sport 50 spray too which you isn't great to use on the face (you can but it's less easy) a but is pretty good for arms and legs before school. P20 is good too and comes in higher factors now.

Check the star rating on the back, the expensive ones seem to be 2-3 stars & Sainsbury's own is 5 stars.

Put thick cream on dc using a sponge

soapboxqueen · 09/05/2018 20:16

I stick with soltan as it has 5 stars. Don't like p20 as it stains everything.

JammyGeorge · 09/05/2018 20:18

We've used the soltan once for years, we picked up the same cream in a spray bottle and it was much thinner and went on easier and quicker.

I use the altruist great value and made by a dermatologist. It's on amazon
