Dry/red patches on 2 year olds face.

He’s had these patches for a long time now, maybe 6 months. My five year old used to get the same patches but on his legs and eventually he grew out of it. DP is starting to get concerned though so I thought I’d ask on here.

They start the day flesh coloured but dry. Then by the end of the day they end up red. They don’t seem to cause him any pain or irritation, he doesn’t touch them or scratch them.

We have tried quite a few different creams and coconut oil but it doesn’t really help. Just wondered if anyone knew what they might be and whether I should be taking him to a doctor?

On that second photo the white bits aren’t blisters they are probably just where the cream has stuck to the skin.

To add they come and go on his cheeks in different places. Only on his cheeks, nowhere else on his body.

DD had this at a similar age. Took me a few days to realise that she was wiping her nose with her sleeve/arm and the snot was ending up on her cheek. The bit which got dry & red was the bit beyond where I wiped around her mouth with a cloth after meals.
It was worse on nursery days as they weren't as diligent as I was at blowing her nose; it got better overnight as her nose didn't tend to run overnight.
Of course, it might not be this but it's something to consider.

I'd probably pop him to the GP. It might just be a very mild bit of eczema - DS has something similar, especially on cold days when he's been outside. I have to grease him up beforehand to protect him, like a tiny cross-Channel swimmer! I have to be careful about using things like wet wipes on his face too - I try to use soft dry clothes as much as possible, or ones dampened with plain water, after his meals, and no soap or anything. It doesn't bother DS either but it surely can't be comfortable for him and it doesn't look very nice.

But equally it might be something else, and your GP is the best person to tell you. Smile

My Son had these red cheeks for years, only last week realised what it was.... it’s chapped and rubbed skin from when he wipes his nose with his sleeve and rubs his cheeks ( takes after his Dad obviously) the best cure is nappy rash cream if it’s the same thing.

My DS gets similar. His nursery panicked one day, thought it was impetigo and sent him home. I got a gp appointment and, as others have said, eczema. Going from hot to cold apparently makes it worse. We use metanium at night but I've just got some aveedo oat moisturiser to see if that helps.
