13 month old has bloody snot from one nostril only??

My DS is 13 months old and like all babies who attend nursery, permanently has a cold, cough and runny nose.

His latest bout has been going on for a week now and his nose mucus was clear up until today. One nostril now only produces brown or blood streaked mucus. He's well in himself though. Happy, eating and drinking, no temperature etc.

I've googled it but can't get any relative answers. Does anyone know what might be causing it or what (if anything) I should do to treat it?

I have rubbish sinuses and am prone to developing sinusitis from a normal cold and I'm wondering if he's inherited that? Also I know if you burst blood vessels in your nose from blowing it too much that'll make the mucus bloody but DS is too small to blow when I wipe his nose.

Could he have put something up that nostril? Can you take a look with a torch? Or shine a torch through his nose to look at any shadows that shouldn't be there?

Something up there or he’s picked it - are his finger nails cut short?

Thanks @DameFanny . It was a bit of a battle but I got a good look and can't see anything up there. So that's good! One thing ruled out Smile

This happens to two of my ds’s sometimes when they get colds, would happen maybe on and off for a few days and then clear up

@appesandpears56 I cut his nails this morning so he could possibly have done some damage before that, maybe in the night or yesterday. I've never seen him put his fingers up his nose though to date. But i also don't have eyes in the back of my head lol. He's more focused about putting his hands in his mouth because of teething.

Well that's me out of ideas! Good luck finding the cause - but maybe check with the GP if it's still bloody in a couple of days?

@1Strawberry Thanks for the reassurance. Hopefully my DS will follow suit and it'll be nothing to worry about. Just thought it was worth an ask as I've never seen him have it before. I try to strike a balance between panic and complacency when it comes to all the lurgy he picks up Grin
