Hi

Has anyone used ear buddies splints on there children that would like to share how it went?
My 5 month old has one ear much bigger than the other, both are very prominent. Baby also has a rim kink (like a dent ) in the top of the ear, and the other ear is pointy also.
The ear buddies website has me sold on these splints. They are basically little rubbers that you tape into the cartilage and they re shape the ear. The results pages are fantastic and they are so well reviewed.
Iv left it this long as my baby is beautiful and I didn’t want to mess with his ears however as he grows they look so much worse and I am worried he wi be teased like his dad was for having these ears.

I guess I am reserved to go ahead without a healthcare professional telling me to. Even though it says 98% of parents fit them at home, and the company has reassured me no consultation with your gp is necessary. I have this worry that when a doctor or health visitor etc sees him, at appointments and the like, they will wonder what on earth I am doing to my baby.
Because even though they are used on the nhs and are recommended, not many people have seen them before.

If I call my doctor will they just talk me out of it?

Experiences welcome . No judgement, thank you

I had a baby with a pointy ear, it must have been folded over for months in the womb.

I wondered about the splints but couldn’t find anyone who had used them.

Twenty months on and it is rounding out by itself, I doubt anyone that wasn’t looking very closely would know. It does like to fold itself over under hats which I would have thought was uncomfortable.
Both ears are still prominent and glow when the light is behind them, but I think it adds character.

Personally I wouldn’t use such a drastic product on a baby without some reassurance from someone other than the marketing rep of the company your buying from.

I haven’t got any first hand experience with them, but they look pretty non-invasive and if you think your ds’s ears will cause him an issue in later life I’d go for it. Babies will soon let you know if they’re not happy with something! And it may prevent surgery in the future if he wanted to do something about it when he’s older.

I would be careful from the point of view in case he could scratch at it and potentially get it in his mouth and choke.

I would wait until he’s about 3 and take him to the doc to see if you can get surgery. My ds had surgery at 3 (for something completely different) but a minor operation on a 3yo doesn’t traumatise them.

Thank you. They are taped in and definitely wouldn’t be able to choke.
I think an operation is drastic and can have complications and certainly won’t be done until after 8 as far as I’m aware.
I’ve ordered them.. but I don’t know whether to speak with the doctor first or just go for it. I’m worried what the health visitor and other health professionals might think.. it’s not as well known as it should be for a product with such great results.
If I could get fitted by a doctor I would but it seems there is a 4months waiting list with this in my area. By then it would be too late to start. I don’t care what people think. The time will fly by but it’s the raised eyebrows from doctors etc who may have no idea what’s going on!
