Chicken pox query

Chicken pox is doing the rounds at school. Neither of my children have had it (aged 9 and 7).

Is there any reason why they wouldn't have had it so far? Some children have had it several times. If anything I'm slightly concerned that they haven't had it as I would rather they got it younger rather than older. I know people deliberately expose their children to it - is this a good idea?

It really is something only you can decide. If your kids are perfectly healthy otherwise then there’s no major reason why they shouldn’t be exposed. My DH is 32 and been in contact loads of times but still hasn’t had them. I got them for the first time at 16 and was horrendously ill but I’ve also had them 3 times. I personally wouldn’t deliberately seek them out but I wouldn’t avoid exposure either. Your kids might be lucky and have great immune systems.

I had chicken pox subclinically when I was 8 years old. It was going around the school and my mum thought I gad finally caught it when one spot appeared on my belly. I was off school for the week with other kids who also had chicken pox, they were actually covered however all I had was this tiny spot on my belly. I must have immunity as I’m now in my 30s, been exposed to it many times and have been around my kids who have had it. Could Ben yours have had it subclinically as it doesn’t manifest in everyone the same way...
