Brown inhaler while asleep?

My ds (5) was prescribed a brown inhaler to prevent coughing and wheezing brought on by a viral colds he had during winter. We've been using them for about a week once in the morning and once at night but tonight was so hectic getting everything done and ready for tomorrow that my DH was the one to put the children to bed. We forgot to give the inhaler!!! I tried to wake my DS up but he just tosses and turns and swats me away. I read you can give them a puff while asleep so I tried this and he had a few breaths before turning his face and so I put it on again for him to breath once and turn his face again!

I do think he got some in but I'm worried he didn't get the full dose. Should I try again or just leave him for tonight? He's not coughing and not wheezing he hasn't been since he's been on the preventer. I'm just having trouble falling asleep because this whole inhaler usage is new to me. I'm tempted to sleep on his bedroom floor just in case.

Don’t panic - it’s fine. Brown inhaler is slow acting. Try once more then leave it. Gently put the mask on his face and then if he doesn’t react press the puff. We used to give loads of puffs in sleep.
It’ll honestly be fine if he misses a dose. Just give again in the morning.

Bless you I know how scary this is. The inhaler needs to be breathed in deeply to really work. I assume you have a volumiser so he will have got some. I'd say if he isn't coughing or struggling to breathe (shoulders up and down, sternum in and out) he's alright for now and you just start again in the morning.

Agree do not worry! Brown inhalor is about long term prevention keeping it under control on a medium-long term basis. Unless he was having any immediate symptoms of wheeziness, which he'd probably wake up for and you'd need to use the blue inhalor for anyway, don't worry.

If his asthma is generally under control (which you obviously would know already if it wasn't because he'd need to take the blue inhalor more than advised) then he wouldn't suffer from symptoms overnight for not taking a full dose tonight.
