Blood streaks in diaper

Explosive nappies - 2 in under half a hour, 4 total in day. All runny and stinking.

Last one it was dripping out as I changed and the nappy had little streaks of blood.

Nappies all green / yellow which is normal for LO but very runny and lumpy.

Any experience of this, I'm 50/50 on calling out of hours as LO is otherwise fine.

LO is 5 month old, drooly so assumed to be teething but otherwise healthy and happy.

Hi I don't have any experience of this so I can't help sorry but if it were my LO I would call the docs to be safe. Was it a lot of blood?x

RubaDubMum89 · 29/04/2018 22:07

If it was just streaks and not a large amount, could their bum hole have become irritated or sore and have bled abit with the last poo?

I know in the past when DD has had a bad tummy this has happened to her after several bad nappies (however, I did 100% see where the blood had come from as it showed up when I put sudocreme on).

If it'll put your mind at rest ring out of hours, there's no harm in asking and better to be safe than sorry if you're worried.

I hope LO is feeling better soon OP!

No. Just a streak or two. LO and DP are now asleep so I don't want to wake them, but then again dont want it to happen again tomorrow when I'm home alone with LO.

Thanks Ruba.

I didn't see any blood on LO. Just the nappy, and it's not like LO was straining... Quite the opposite but I wonder if the watery explosion maybe ruptured a blood vessel or something.

Your little one may have passed a hard lump which led to the blood streaks. Have never heard of a child having a ruptured burst vessel during a poo. I am sure if any had there would be lots of bright red blood and not streaks. If your worried head to the GP tomorrow

That happened to my 2yo when he had a bit of an upset stomach and his bum got irritated. Sudocrem sorted the issue.

OnNaturesCourse · 29/04/2018 22:24

I'm not yet registered at new GP so can't get an appointment, old GP is too far away.

I'll see how things go and maybe call old GP for advice tomorrow.

LO is sleeping soundly so obviously not in pain

We've started weaning so I wonder if the gut is just unsettled.

Are you past all your immunisations? I think I can remember being told to look out for bloody stools with the rotavirus ones. Think DD had the last of those around that age ( this time last year, you'd think I could remember that far back...)

Mybabystolemysanity · 29/04/2018 22:29

I'm sure if you rang a gp you're not yet registered with, they wouldn't turn away a five month old in any circumstances?

OnNaturesCourse · 29/04/2018 23:59

She had the last lot of vaccinations about 3 weeks or so ago, and that was horrific!

Local GP can't / won't see unregistered patients (my old GP is 'close' by but not reachable by walking or public transport)

How's the LO doing this morning OP?

OnNaturesCourse · 30/04/2018 19:50

She's absolutely fine but did have an explosive nappy waking up this morning, leaked everywhere.

She has since had two more so three in a day which is a lot for her, but she seems fine in herself and is taking her bottles OK so far.

I haven't given her any purees or veg today..

If she has another explosion tonight I will be calling out of hours.

No more blood though so beginning to wonder if this is all down to her weaning and teething.

My DS had a little streak of blood when we first started weaning. Took him to the docs, she felt his tummy and checked that he was well in himself (which he was) and said it was probably just him adjusting to solids but to go back if it continued. If you're worried see the doc but my guess is it's weaning related!
