9 month old chicken pox

So I posted a couple weeks ago about my eldest getting chicken pox. It has now passed onto my ds2 who is 9 months old.

We are on day 5 today. More spots are still appearing. Lots of them. He has over 500 and most are on his head.ended up at walk in clinic last night who's prescribed antibiotics and piriton.

Piriton seems to make him itch more??? It doesn't help with drowsiness either which I was hoping for.

He's really struggling to get comfy to do anything but mainly sleep. I've been up most of the night :( holding him as that's the only way he will sleep. He seems to settle then 5 minutes later he's screaming.
And has a constant fever that's only lowered slightly by calpol. I've been told to return for a check up Monday at gps

I'm using virasoothe, Camille aqueous cream, calpol every 6 hours. And he's had the two doses of piriton now that he's allowed, bicarbonate soda and oats baths and he only seems to get relief for very small amount of time. I'm using the cream every half hour Tonight. The massaging seems to help too.

I'm knackered to say the least and I just want to cry for my little boy. Nothing in doing is helping him. He must feel horrible. Any hints and tips that I've missed while searching the internet?

Many thanks in advance.

Calamine lotion was awful but oats in a sock, wet in the bath and sooth the spots with creamy oatmeal sock worked wonders in soothing ds. I put the a drop of tea tree oil in bath as well to prevent infection.

Flowers for you. It's awful my DS got them at 10 months from DD. I have no suggestions as I was going to say oat bath.
Do you give piriton at the same time as a calpol dose?

DS1 had horrific chickenpox at 6 months old. We spent a lot of time in the bath with porridge oats! Thanks

DD has chicken pox at the same age, and as badly as your DS, OP. I did pretty much what you are doing, but also used Poxclin. I preferred it to Virasoothe, because it’s a mousse, so you can dab it on spots without touching them and irritating then.

I hope your DS begins to recover soon. CP can be really horrible.

Thank you for the support :) ds1 who's 2 years old was a bit itchy but relieved by cream and medication. I stupidly assumed ds2 would be a milder case as I'd read on the internet of babies getting it again because its Usually mild.

I gave piriton earlier 30 mins after calpol. Should I be using it at the same time or further apart?

Thanks!!

Oh. Now i’m Not sure about that.

If it’s any comfort, DD turned abound on Day 6. I remember it well. We’d gone to my mum’s for few days (we live in different parts of the country). DS had just got over CP. We got there on the Monday. I noticed the first spot on dd at tea time. By the following morning she had exploded into a huge mass of spots, and was so covered she had big clusters where they all joined up. We ended up staying longer than intended because she was so ill, but drove home on the Saturday - along with every car and caravan going to/from the West Country for its summer holidays!! We stopped at every service station on the M5 and M42 I think!

I’d always been told that if babies under 1 get CP, then they can get it again, but dd is now 6, and has been in contact with CP several times since (several “epidemics” when she was at nursery, then 10 of her class mates were off with it last term) and has been fine.
