Leukemia worry in 3 year old

Hi, just looking for some advice or if anyone has experienced the same with their little one.

My son is 3, and I just have a gut feeling that something isnt right. He sleeps a solid 12 hours every single night but still looks utterly exhausted and drained all day long...his eyes look heavy, hes pale & has bags under his eyes. This weekend he hasnt wanted to do anything other than lie down with a blanket or cuddle. He has had a steady high temp of 38-39 with no obvious reason for a few days now, he hasnt got a cold or tummy bug symptoms etc. He hasnt had his usual appetite recently either, for food or drink.

Ive googled (stupid idea) and a few things have alarmed me...he has a lot of red blood spots on his body ..maybe 10/15 and that was on a signs of leukemia page. I know Ive just scared myself, but just wondered if anyone elses toddlers have experienced the same kind of symptoms and what was the outcome? Thanks x

I'm sorry I haven't experienced this but I think you should probably try and see an out of hours doctor? Hope he's ok.

HollowTalk · 22/04/2018 15:09

It's easy to scare yourself, so you should step away from Google for now. Having said that I would call 111 and ask for some advice unless you can be guaranteed a doctor's appointment tomorrow.

I hope he's okay - what a worry for you.

MyOtherUserNameIsAUnicorn · 22/04/2018 15:10

Oh no! Don't google.
I've got no idea about 3 year olds my Lo is 11 weeks. It could be nothing/could be something. Call nhs direct. They will get you a doctors appointment near you. The temperature should be looked at for sure.

Not to alarm you but some forms of Meningitis can also start slowly like this. Take him to A&E right now.

Eppia · 22/04/2018 15:12

Sorry your DS is unwell. Do the spots fade if you press them with a glass?

SparklyMagpie · 22/04/2018 15:15

Phone out of hours or 111, you can never be too safe

Snowcatrunsthehouse · 22/04/2018 15:23

Firstly google is scary and never a good idea.
But you are concerned so get him seen ASAP and ask for a blood test. You will then get an answer. Mothers instinct is listened to in paediatrics.
Out of hours / GP or A&E as he has a rash may be best just to go up and get checked. Good luck

Aprilmightbemynewname · 22/04/2018 15:25

How long as it been going on? Similar here when ds was 20 months. Sent for blood tests eventually and turns out he has ME.
Pretty crappy to live with at 14 but better than the suggested alternative..

specialneedsmumoftwo · 22/04/2018 15:28

Thanks for the advice. Hes actually been admitted to hospital twice for suspected meningitis as his red spots dont fade. If he has a fever and they see the spots (even though they are there constantly) he gets admitted xx

Just to point out that my 3y7m old daughter sleeps 12h solid overnight and also has a 2-3h lunchtime nap. She would be exhausted and drained all day without her nap.

Maybe your son still needs his lunchtime nap?

My son kept his lunchtime nap until he was past 4 1/2 years old and nearly ready for starting school.

We went through a similar experience when my DD was the same age. Very frightening time as leukaemia was investigated, but it turned out to be a condition called ITP (can't spell its full and proper name, but a google will turn up the correct result!) which was potentially serious but not in the same league.

Agree with pps - see a doctor as soon as possible if your gut instinct is telling you that things aren't right, but in the meantime be reassured that the worst case scenario isn't necessarily the most likely one.

rainbowstardrops · 22/04/2018 15:54

Get him to a Dr just to be sure.
Chances are that he's fine or has a mild infection somewhere but better to be safe than sorry

minmooch · 24/04/2018 07:15

Please follow up your gut instinct. The best outcome is that it was wrong and you have nothing to worry about. If there is something going on your little one will benefit from earlier treatment.

Hope all is clear.
