Swollen lymph nodes on one side

Hi just after advice or similar experiences. Went to GP regarding tonsil swelling in my DS's mouth on one side but with no illness or pain. I had noticed the enlarged tonsil 3 weeks ago but DS hadn't been ill so I made an appointment to get him checked over. The GP was very thorough, not hugely worried about the tonsil but on examination felt enlarged lymph nodes on one side of his neck. Due to the fact he hasn't been unwell he has been referred to a paediatrician next week. Obviously I understand there is a low threshold to refer children but I suppose I am just after others similar experiences?

Unfortunately I haven't got any advice, but just wanted to say that you're not on your own, I'm going through very similar.

I noticed a swollen lymph nodes on DSs groin when I was changing his nappy a few weeks ago. Took him to the Dr and he found 2 one side of the groin, 3 on the other and a few on the back of his neck. I just thought he would say it was nothing to worry about and send me on my way. But he was very thorough and told me to come back in a few weeks and then if they were still there they would look at blood tests/biopsy.

We had his appointment today. They're still there, in fact one has got much bigger. He hasn't been unwell for months, hasn't a high temp or anything.

She has booked him in for a blood test Monday morning and was very insistent that it couldn't wait any longer.

I hope you aren't worrying too much. I'm trying very hard not to, as the chances are that it's nothing to worry about, for either of our boys!

We had this with DS6 last year but the swollen gland was under his armpit. He was also having lots of nose bleeds at the time. We were also referred to the hospital so quickly that I started to panic. They did a thorough examination, a scan of his armpit and his stomach area plus blood tests. All came back clear and they said sometimes the glands swell up after a cold or illness and don't go back down. There is an medical name for it but it escapes me. I know it's scary but it really was the NHS working at its absolute best being so speedy to check because he was s child. Good luck.

Thank you both so much for your replies. You are right that the urgency of the appointments is what has got me more worried. Realistically I know the chances of lymphoma are small but you can't help but worry! Empress thinking of you and hoping all will be well for you. Seabrook, thanks for the reassurance and glad your DS is all well.
