Baby nappy thrush

Hi everyone,
My little one (13 months) has rush in her nappy area. Doctor saw her on Wednesday and prescribed cream to be applied 3 times a day. It has gone down, but not as much as the doctor seemed to think it would.
Just wondering if anyone has experience of this with their baby and has any tips for helping her get rid of it?
Thanks

Sudocreme and Bepanthem are good for nappy rash, worth a try. 👍

Metanium... it is the bees knees for nappy rash and thrush too

For thrush need oil is amazing. It's anti fungal and really nourishing to repair the skin (doc's bum was scalded and bleeding by the time I discovered it and it was almost full healed in 3 days). Also try to find out if your child has a food intolerance that might tbe causing it. Once we cut out mushrooms it stopped fairing up.

Neem oil, not need Hmm

My dd(11mo) has just had this. It started as a mild pink rash but then became very red and itchy. We tried bepanthen but it didnt really help much. I went to the pharmacy and got clotrimazole, but i managed to get a gp appointment the next day and he prescribed canestan HC which is steroid based and it cleared it up within a couple of days. My dd was also prescribed nystatin? For oral thrush as he said it's often a GI tract infection.

Thanks everyone. Metanium sadly hasn't had much impact.

Will definitely get done neem oil and bepanthem.

We have a prescribed cream but worry it's not doing much. May have to take her back soon.

Can/ should I be putting on barrier cream like sudocrem/e45? Can it go over the prescribed cream?

Any thoughts on bathing? Often/ less often?

And what about wipes? Is it worth cutting them out?

Sorry for all the questions! Just want to get it cured for her.

I used water to clean, either on cotton wool or a hose down in the bath. Change nappies constantly as quickly as possible. Some nappy free time if you like Russian roulette. Working out what was causing the thrush was really important as it stopped it internally. Depending on your dc's age udo's probiotics may also help.

Did the dr take a swab? DD(2) has horrific nappy rash for a week, took her to the drs for something else, mentioned the rash, and dr swabbed- she's now on day 6 of antibiotics and has completely cleared up.

eggofmantumbi · 15/04/2018 05:37

No swab- might push for this if it hasn't cleared up soon.

I've just looked at neem oil on amazon. Do you dilute it?

Could it be caused by teething. We're also getting A LOT of poos

Metanium

And there is also a 3 in one cream you could ask your dr for - it’s anti fu gal, anti bacterial and calming - tri something - sorry can’t remember the name

Might well be a bacterial infection rather than thrush?

But metanium is amazing

GrainneWail · 15/04/2018 08:00

I used the neem oil neat. I got it from a health food shop.

Thrush cream will usually get rid of the thrush element of the rash within 7-10 days and often even quicker but you still need to use usual barriers / careful drying/ fresh air etc. If it doesn't work there may be a case for a little steroid cream for inflammation, swab and antibiotics if it seems to be bacterial or testing for resistant fungi . Usually however it is straightforward to treat and something GPs see a lot. It doesn't mean it might not recur .
