Red cheeks toddler

My 18 months old has had red dry cheeks for about 5 months now. I took her to the GP who thought it was fungal and prescribed daktacort which didn't seem to make any difference. I regularly use moisturiser, child's farm / aveeno baby / sudocrem. Some days look a lot worse than others

She's in very good health otherwise and has clear skin everywhere else. She does constantly have fingers, toys and anything else she can fit in her mouth

Does anyone have any ideas? I feel silly going to the doctor for 'dry skin' the pharmacist suggested slapped cheek but surely not for so long

Could it be an allergy to her pillow? Out would probably be itchy of that was the case though.

Thanks for replying, she doesn't have a pillow yet. I've never seen her itching her face, it doesn't seem to bother her but they look sore

Possibly, we use whichever washing powder is on offer so have used a few different types while she's had the 'rash' it's worth trying a different one though. I thought a contact reaction would have been more widespread

Moisturisers, those are ones we have tried over the last 5 months we don't use them all at once. I'll try a different bath wash as we only use child's farm so that's certainly worth a try.

What a cutie pie. Not much help...guess slapped cheek would have cleared up sooner if it was that! Is child well in themself?

My daughter had something similar to that rash but I found the cause of it within a few days . My daughter was allergic to a detangler I was using on her hair. I thought it was what I was washing her clothes and blankets in but we haven't changed it.

Does it get worse if you don't use the creams you have been using?
I would try just using warm water on her skin for a few days and see if it clears up.

5 months seems a long time to have it.
I would keep taking her back to doctors till they do something or refer you to someone else etc

My son had this until he was three then if just went away. The GP wasn't really sure what it was.

PiggyPoos · 09/04/2018 00:01

They did mention eczema. Nothing got rid of it we tried everything so just kept using emollient cream which was prescribed.

My DD has this too! She is 4 & has had it since she was about 1. We've had the same with GP giving anti-fungal cream. No luck working out what causes it. We've changed washing powder, shampoo, etc. In the back of my mind I worry it's a dairy allergy or similar?

Clipcloppity · 09/04/2018 08:18

Thank you for the suggestions. Sorry to read other DC have similar.

Yes shewolf, very well otherwise so I think I can confidently say it's not slapped cheek.

I've not bothered with any creams since I posted, they don't seem to help so I'll see if that makes any difference. Also going to pick up some ecover just in case it's the washing powder.

The pic I posted yesterday is the worse it looks, some days it's not nearly as severe but it's always there. I too wondered about a food intolerance mostiquoes. I'll pop get back to the GP if no improvement, I just don't really want to go down the route of Daktacort or hydrocortisone if it's not needed especially on her face.
