Constant UTIs in three year old

My nearly 4 year old daughter seems to constantly have urine infections. She has had 3 this year already and has woken up crying in pain this morning and pain when she wees.

This is getting ridiculous. She drinks plenty, and wipes properly. She doesn't have a bath too often, she doesn't eat too much acidic food like oranges and tomatoes as she says they hurt her mouth anyway.

I really don't know what to do. We are waiting for a call from the doctor AGAIN. I hate that she is constantly on antibiotics. But we cant shift them without them. She gets a temperature and literally cries in pain.

She also usually gets an ear infection after a course of anti biotics for a few days which is just anything thing.

I am prone to them myself and can never shift them without anti biotics and have had too many kidney infections for trying.

Does anyone have any suggestions for help to prevent these constant infections?

She currently has a fever and is having pain when weeing and also not when weeing.

I'm just concerned that they are so frequent and she has already been on antibiotics a lot of a young kid.

Any advice is really appreciated.

So this is her 4th in 4 months? I believe that recurrent infections should always be referred on by gp to a specialist (though I honestly don't know the name of the doctor who deals with that region), my ds has had 6 ear infections in 7 months and I had to ask my gp to refer to ENT specialist at our local hospital because it was just too frequent for him to be suffering and like your dd fevers and pain with each one, though not every infection was prescribed antibiotics only the very worst ones were (about 3 in the 7 months). I would take to gp for more antibiotics and whilst there say you don't feel that 4 uti's in 4 months is normal and you would like to be referred to your nearest children's hospital to have a specialist investigate this further.

I would also ask for a referral. My DD had similar when she was a this age and after investigations it was discovered she has kidney reflux. A hot bath would give my daughter a bit of relief for a short time. I hope your dd feels better soon

She should be referred for an ultrasound of her kidneys at this stage and onward referral to a paediatric urologist.

I agree - she needs a scan
Ask for a referral to a paediatric urologist from your gp
