Any GP's around, on holiday and need some advice please?

We're on holiday in Wales and no where near a GP etc so would appreciate some advice please.

My DD (10) has had a runny nose and slight temperature controlled by calpol for nearly a week now. She keeps having periods through the day where she's lethargic and gets these bright red cheeks (pics below).

When it happens under her eyes looks swollen and she said she feels really hot. She also says her cheeks are stinging. The redness comes on suddenly, lasts a few hours and goes down.

She has a slight pin prick rash on her arms and legs, again this comes and goes.

Any ideas on what it could be, and do I need to find a GP. I'm worried it could be scarlet fever or slapped cheek as there have been cases in our home town.

Thanks

Poor thing, is there a hospital you can go to

Makingworkwork · 04/04/2018 16:48

I don’t think a gp ethical code will allow them to say anything other than seek medical advice in person because they can’t full assess the patient.

Makingworkwork · 04/04/2018 16:49

Is there a pharmacist near by? I really think you need to some real life medical help.

Stopyourhavering64 · 04/04/2018 16:49

Where in Wales are you....there's bound to be an out of hours service you can be seen at

ilovewelshrarebit123 · 04/04/2018 16:49

I don't like to waste A&E time really, in herself she's fine and said she doesn't feel ill.

Her cheeks just look terrible as they are so red!

I'm not a gp but will bump this thread for you hopefully gps will be along soon. Meantime could you ring 111 and find out where nearest NHS centre is located?

ilovewelshrarebit123 · 04/04/2018 21:34

So the pharmacy suggested anti histamine, which calmed it down for an hour, then it flared up again.

I'll keep a close eye tomorrow then take it from there.

I was going to say allergy as I’ve seen my children react with red cheeks suddenly I’d theyre allergic to something.

BadlyParkedRangeRover · 04/04/2018 23:00

You need to seek actual medical advice. 111 will direct you.
You don't know anyone who replies is actually a GP, and any GP who does reply is risking their professional registration.

Poor little mite!!

I thought slap cheek when I saw that! Hope she’s better again soon!

penguinsandpanda · 04/04/2018 23:26

I've used the Push Doctor service before, its a GP over the phone, thinks its £20 but it was very good.

There is the odd person here who says they are GP but tbh anyone could say that online - I think they are but wouldn't risk it. I would otherwise try out of hours, 111 in England, Wales has own health system so think it'll be different. Here seem to be some numbers though:

I found a rash on my daughters back, just at bedtime, once. Didn't want to rush her off to a&e, went through shropdoc (nhs 24) and i was able to email photos of the rash to the doctor, who assured me it was fine. Perhaps something like could help you

BlackInk · 05/04/2018 09:29

Also not a doctor, but it looks and sounds very much like slapped cheek, which is just a mild childhood virus and doesn't need treatment. As symptoms have been present for a week, if it is slapped cheek she should be coming to the end of it, but if fever persists or she gets worse it's probably worth seeing or speaking to a doctor to rule out a bacterial infection.
Just a thought... I guess you're not using sun lotion in Wales in April, but any other new skin creams or foods? Possibly washing powder on the bed linen where you're staying?
It really does look like slapped cheek though.
Hope your DD feels better very soon!

Ring 111. They should be able to give you information about local GP's, WIC etc.

You can be seen as a temporary resident.

BoreOfWhabylon · 05/04/2018 09:34

Oh, if you are in Wales, it's NHS Direct. 08454647

lovelilies · 05/04/2018 16:50

How is your DD? Mine had cheeks exactly like that last night! She hasn't felt ill though. Wonder what it is?
