Diarrhoea coming up for 4 weeks any advice??

Has anyone any advice on what I can do to help my 20mth old,
She has been suffering from diarrhoea now for nearly 4 weeks, really beginning to loose the will, it’s coming through her clothes, up to 10 times a day she is going.
I have been to the doctors numerous times they have done a stool sample, they didn’t tell me what they were testing for so I’m guessing it was a bug but results came back as no action required so I guess that means clear.
I have since been back to a second doctor and he has done a lactose stool sample and I am waiting the results.
In the meantime I have been giving her koko milk inplace of her milk as that is dairy and lactose free, she has had it for almost a week now and there is still no improvement, I have tried taking certain foods out of her diet and nothing works.
I feel like I’m failing her as I can not find any way to help her,
Any advice would be appreciated as I feel I’m getting nowhere with doctors :(

Back to the doctors - I'd be seriously worried about dehydration

MilkyCoffeeAndSkinnySyrup · 01/04/2018 23:43

She needs to go back. 4 weeks is a seriously long time to suffer from diarrhoea and like the prev poster said, I'd be worried about dehydration! She might have other food intolerance and allergies that could be causing it so I'd keep a food diary so it will be easier to pinpoint what is causing it (could be a coeliac?)

There is a chance it could just start as tummy bug but her flora needs restoring so you could try a probiotic or even just enterosgel. If no luck then possibly intolerance to particular doos

Posted too early!
So if intolerance to particular food then just start eliminating .... but possibly start with first option and see how it goes

Was it fine before 4 weeks ago? I think my guess would be a tummy bug that has led to a secondary lactose intolerance which should be temporary. So I think you've done the right thing. Apro do a children's soya milk, which looks like it has way too much sugar, but its to make up for loss in energy from lactose.

The other possibility is fructose intolerance but this is really hard to test for in a young child. You can do an elimination diet for it but it's very restricted and really needs a specialised dietician to implement. I hope you get somewhere with the doctors. Good luck.

Thanks for all ur advice,
She is drinking lots of fluids and the doctors don’t seem worried about dehydration as I was also worried about that, she has turned into a very fussy eater and I am struggling to get any breakfast down her unless it’s a fruit pouch of some kind, the doctors told me to try lactose free milk for 2 weeks and then go back if she is no better, would you wait another week or just take her back this week, I have been trying to read up on different intolerances and I feel like there is that many I don’t no were to start, before this she was fine the odd bit of constipation but never anything I would worry about, I have also noticed that she is getting random red patches on her body I spot them and then it’s gone after 15-20 mins every day she’s getting them in different places has anyone ever heard of anything like this as I have googled everything and I can not seem to find anything like it. Thanks again for everyone’s help

Could just be 'toddler diarrhoea'

www.emmasdiary.co.uk/toddler/child-health/toddler-diarrhoea

It's a thing apparently- a friend's child had it and it did resolve itself eventually.

OP- sorry i dont know how to tag- we've done the toddler diet as above since Tuesday and its made such a difference already! I really suggest you try it x
