Baby acne, does anything work?

I realise how shallow this is, but my 3 week old's baby acne is pretty bad! Her forehead especially is covered. Does anything work or do I just wait it out?

We was prescribed a special wash by the doctor for it which seemed to help clear it quite quickly but other than that had to just wait it out!

It takes about 3 weeks, my son got it really badly at 21/2 weeks but by 6 weeks it had all gone. It is hard though but becomes a distant memory quite quickly.

My DS had it bad when he was 2-4 weeks old. His skin was clear by 5 weeks! X

Ah just saw the replies thank you.

These timelines are encouraging! Dc is 4 weeks and had it since 2 weeks but it looks to be improving. From googling extensively i think she may have had a variant of baby acne called cephalic pustulosis which looks as lovely as it sounds. Will def ask if i need anything to help clear it at the 6 week check if it's still there.

I feel ridiculous focussing on something like this but thanks for not judging Blush

My baby had his 6 week check yesterday and I mentioned his spots to the doctor. They're quite mild so he said to wait it out but if it got particularly bad / red he would prescribe a steroid cream.

If your baby's acne is particularly bad it might be worth getting it checked over sooner as you've got quite a wait for the 6 week check.

And you're not shallow! Grin

It's annoying but just wait it out, it will go away within a few weeks. You really don't need to bother with doctor's visits and lotions (or even Googling).

Blunt answers will only be because anyone with a couple of years or more of parenting under their blets will feel like those first weeks are gone in a flash and they wish they hadn't wasted time worrying about stuff that solves itself!

Really, it'll be gone in no time and you'll forget about it until a friend has a newborn with it, and you'll be like "Oh god, that's right... newborns get those little pimples in the first weeks, don't they?!"

*belts!

Ds had it so bad at around 5 weeks that it started to spread onto his back and chest. After seeing various dr’s and hv’s who advised creams, and ‘wait it out’ etc, I finally got a dr that prescribed antibiotics.
Cleared it up in days never to return.
It was a pretty extreme case though (dr said he’d never seen it so bad) and it was at risk of becoming infected.

Oh i know these things are fleeting, honest! Both my older kids had baby acne and I do remember wondering at the time would it ever clear and of course it did in the blink of an eye. So much so that I'd forgotten about the baby acne stage!

Dc3's though has been much worse, really quite unsightly which is what made me start googling again. It's definitely a lot better since i first posted - don't think it's infected -and i think maybe path of least resistance best for now. Good to know there is stuff that works if you need it though. Thanks all.
