Sore throat and temperature in DD

At what point do you call the doctor when a child has a temperature?
Dd is 7. Had a sore throat for two weeks off and on and a chesty cough but she was full of energy and seemed ok so I just thought it would go eventually. Since the middle of last night though, she has a temperature and hasn’t eaten a thing today. She’s very quiet today. She says she feels sick, her hands and feet were freezing earlier whereas her body was hot. She’s been saying she feels freezing. She won’t eat but she’s having sips of water.
I get so anxious when she’s unwell. What do I need to look out for? I think I might just call the doctor tomorrow anyway.

Does she ha r a rash? Scarlet fever is doing the rounds atm.

Realitea · 28/03/2018 17:51

No, I’ve been looking out for it but nothing yet. She’s had scarletina before and the symptoms she has now are v. Similar (but without the rash so far)

Have you checked for white spots on her throat.
It could be tonsillitis.
If she’s still poorly in the morning I would try and get her an appt with GP.
That’s a common age for bacterial tonsillitis and they often get antibiotics for it.
If she’s not been right for a few weeks anyway probably worth getting her checked out if she still has a temp in the morning

What is her temperature

Gunpowder · 28/03/2018 20:14

I go more on how they seem than how high their temperatures are. I haven’t called the doctor when mine have had temps over 40.5 as their fevers have come down with calpol and they have seemed ok (talking, drinking etc.) but have called the doctor when they’ve had much lower temps but not been drinking much or are lethargic.

I think if you are worried about her it’s good to call the doctor/111 and ask their advice. They can run through red flags with you on the phone and decide whether they want to see your DD. Poor thing, hope she gets better soon.

She’s been very quiet, watching Ben and holly and holding my hand for the past few hours. Poor thing, I feel so sorry for her. I’ll phone the doctor in the morning. I couldn’t see any white spots on the tonsils. We’ll see what the doctor can find tomorrow!
