My 15 year old daughter has had her cartlidge pierced in her right ear last week all seemed fine but now her ear has swollen quite a bit and very red
There is no weeping and it looks ok she can move earring etc but it's very red and swollen

Any advice

Swelling and redness is normal. As long as it’s not hot or has a lot of bad smelling discharge.

Leave it alone, don’t twist the piercing. Clean twice a day with a sea salt solution if she isn’t already.

Oh I've been telling her to twist it
Yes she is cleaning it am and pm
But it was pierced a week ago

It can stay swollen for a while
I cleaned mine twice a day with sea salt and boiled water. Mine went red and I thought it was going to be infected but it cleared up
I think it can be a 2 or 3 months before the swelling is totally gone
My daith took longer than tragus

I twisted mine when I cleaned it to get salt water through
I think the jurys out on whether to twist or not

I believe those types of piercings tend to take longer to heal. I think mine took several months for it to be completely healed.

So if it's not weeping it should be ok even though is hot and swollen x

It shouldn’t be radiating heat, but if it’s a bit warm to touch it’s maybe just because it’s irritated

Sea salt and boiled then cooled to warm water should ease the swelling. That and time. And not touching it.

I got my cartilage pierced last year and was told not to twist it since it opens up the wound inside every time you move it and it delays healing.
