Chickenpox and flying - should I/can I ask gp to write a letter?

My son came down with chickenpox Thursday evening, off school Friday. We fly next Saturday. All info says about 5 days off school but just thought how will airline know it’s 10 days since spots to flying? Do I have to prove it? Will my gp help? Suddenly panicking! Any advice on this? Thanks.

It’s nothing to do with number of days- the 5 days is an average. It’s to do with the spots- if they are still oozing/ not scabbed he can’t go to school or fly- sometimes this can take 3 weeks- but rarely. If it started last week I’m sure it will be ok, but it is t safe for him to be out and about until the spots are scabbed- be that 3 days, 5 or 20.

FWIW - I flew with dd about 2 1/2 weeks after spots- they were obviously well scabbed, no one batted an eyelid.

You should also check the policy of the airline you are flying with. Ive heard of people being denied boarding because they don't have a 'fit to fly' certificate from a GP.

Thank you, airline website says 7 days after last spot, we haven’t noticed any more since yesterday so as close as we can get it. Husband off to gp tomorrow to see what they say, I could always fly 2 days later if need be.

He might get over it quickly, my children only got it mildly!

DS came down with it Sunday evening.. had Monday-Friday off school and was back that Monday. He was starting to scab over by day 3!

He started scabbing over day 2, ironically we had the chicken pox vaccination privately 4 days before he came out with it and it can make the healing quicker, just need to persuade the gp all of this!! Thank you.
