DD had a tooth removed and the procedure seemed a bit odd. what should a dentist do before removing a child's tooth?

Dd had her mouth numbed then the dentist used a pointed tool to get in the gum around the tooth and then pliers to pull it out. What happened in your case?

littlebillie · 24/03/2018 23:05

DD was asked about her pain, the dentist said its the baby teeth and remove two one on each side.

Removed first tooth and it as adult molar, then she read her notes and thought about x raying her mouth. I would say this seems like good practice.

I dont understand. Why were teeth being removed? Dd had hers out for orthodontic treatment. Did they take the wrong tooth out?

littlebillie · 24/03/2018 23:28

I think there was no due diligence on her teeth the dental team were new and could not find the equipment.

I can't understand they thought an adult molar was a milk tooth. She is really poorly tonight and I'm fuming

So they've removed an adult tooth instead of a milk tooth??

littlebillie · 24/03/2018 23:34

Yep

They removed an adult molar accidentally and it came out without your dc needing pain relief?

littlebillie · 24/03/2018 23:35

Her notes record all her milk and adult teeth the dentist assumed and took out an adult tooth which could have had work

She had pain relief this was a appointment to discuss the pain

She said it was a milk tooth with an adult behind when she removed it it was adult

Are you sure it wasn't a baby tooth ? If the dentist has extracted a tooth in error that is a massive never event in the NHS. I would contact practice manager and as for a talk through of how it happened

littlebillie · 24/03/2018 23:44

I'm just so sad for her

How old is your daughter and did the dentist say they had removed an adult tooth?

laddylonglocks · 25/03/2018 00:14

That's a bad mistake. Adult molars are huge compared to baby ones! And they take some effort to pull out.

littlebillie · 25/03/2018 09:54

Dd 13 and said she was taking out a baby tooth molar, she was ill last night, I feel terrible I let them to it but at the time they said it was a baby tooth.

Which one was it If you count back from the front? Did they say afterwards it was an adult one? I think the 6th tooth back is the first adult molar. Had she lost all her baby teeth already?

littlebillie · 25/03/2018 10:50

1st molar

It's very unusual to remove an adult tooth without taking a radiograph beforehand.

Jellyjumpers · 27/03/2018 23:13

Why is your daughter ill?had you made an appointment for pain or was this a checkup?

notapizzaeater · 27/03/2018 23:20

Did they say what they was going to do about this ?

Farmerswife36 · 27/03/2018 23:31

I don't understand what you are upset about ? Is your dd ill ? Can you explain things clearer as the drip feed is not helping
