Neonatal sepsis

Hi this is my first post.

My dd was born Boxing Day 2014 healthy 8lb 1oz. She had funny coloured vomit (aluminous yellow) for the 3 days we were in after her birth. The midwives told me it was mucous from the birth. The birth was traumatic for her. I was 2 weeks over and has to be induced, the bag was tight over her head when they tried to break my waters instead the cut her head pretty badly, which made her open her bowels whilst still in utero, she was in there for another 12 hours. They let us home on the 3rd day and after 4 hours the aluminous yellow vomit turned aluminous green, I phoned my midwife and she said to go straight to the hospital. After a load of tests she had sepsis, a week on 2 broad spectrum anti biotics and we could take her home. They didn't tell me it was sepsis it was only after she had repeated viral infections I asked my GP what the first infection was. She still suffers a lot of viral infections and bacterial infections now aged 3. I was wondering if there are any other mums of sepsis babies on here? I don't know anyone who's had a baby with sepsis and I don't know what to expect?

Didn't want to read and run. Sorry you had such a hard time after your lo was born OP. Can't believe the cuts on her head!

I'm a bit confused though so apologies if I've mis read, are you concerned that the infections your lo has been getting recently are being caused by her sepsis as a baby? Sepsis is obviously really serious at the time, and can sometimes lead to long term complications, but if she was successfully treated with antibiotics as a baby and hadnt had any complications then I'm not sure the more recent illnesses would be related. Has the doctor suggested that they are linked? Maybe a dormant virus or something?

Oops4 she's constantly been ill since. Plus I don't know how long she had the sepsis for before she had treatment to know what damage it did. I was mainly wondering if any other mothers of sepsis babies have noticed anything with their children like low immune systems or delayed speech ( didn't say her first word until after 2 1/2. Didn't really babble as a baby at all)

The sepsis puts her at risk of longer term issues so the best thing is to get her followed up and assessed in case she may need extra input at nursery or school.
But each child will be different
There isn't much research but have her reviewed by a paedldiatrician .

Thank you for that x

Sepsis is an auto immune response to an infection, rather than an infection in itself so she would have had an infection first before the sepsis if that makes sense.

Definitely worth getting some further advice though as it could all be linked.
