Nearly a year old and still no teeth?

DD2 is 11.5 months old and still has no teeth. Doesn't appear to be teething either. I've had a good nosey on the NHS website but it doesn't seem to have any info about what point I should take her to a GP about her teeth not coming through yet. Is there a cut off?

I don't mind too much, only it's limiting what foods she can eat and she is so keen to join in with absolutely everything we eat that I am forever cutting things into really small pieces (which I then spend time worrying she's going to choke on!)

If relevant:
She wasn't premature and is otherwise developing normally I think. She's slightly above average size but has been growing much more slowly since weaning. This has been checked by doctors and they are happy that it's just her settling on a new growthline (dropped from 95th at 6 months to just under 60th now)

DS was a gummy bear for ages. He still has some milk teeth and he's 12. His dentist isn't worried. Maybe pop in to see yours for a chat to reassure you?

Ishouldntbesolucky · 23/03/2018 21:13

Mine didn't get their first teeth until over a year - about 12 -13 months I think.

Flowersonthewall · 23/03/2018 21:14

My daughter was 17 months when she got her first tooth. I wouldn't worry xx

Nifflerbowtruckle · 23/03/2018 21:17

Apparently I got my teeth quite late. I had several cousins of similar ages and I was last to get them and first to lose them. You generally chew with molars and they don't come in until closer to 2 so she will more than likely be able to manage most foods by mushing them on her gums. My GGrandma didn't have teeth for years and ate steak and everything Grin.

Ginger1982 · 23/03/2018 21:17

They all develop differently. My DS is 11.5 months and has 8 teeth but can't crawl whereas some of his younger baby pals can walk but have no teeth!

Lots of information on line says not to worry at this stage. DD got bottom front two at about 13 months, and only now at 17 months the top two are appearing.
Teeth brushing is her least favourite time of day so I’m glad we avoided it for a while!

Alex had none when he was 1.
He had goat milk formula and I'm nearly certain that the fact he had organic goat meant that he had less hormones and therefore teethed later (and with no problems)

DD got her first tooth at 18 months!

She is 7 now and her teeth are perfectly normal Smile

upsideup · 23/03/2018 21:21

Perfectly normal, all 4 of mine didnt have teeth untill they were 1+, They all have normal healthy teeth now.

georgedawes · 23/03/2018 21:22

Yep normal in our experience. DD got first tooth about 12 months, in fact 4 seemed to appear at once.

Pop her into the dentist if you are worried. It’s almost certainly nothing to worry about as everyone else says but if there is something wrong (there are genetic conditions that can affect teeth) then a Dentist is much more likely to know about it than a GP.

Background: my DS has a genetic condition that affects his teeth, no GP we’ve visited has ever heard of the condition (which also affects other body parts) but every Dentist spots it straight away...

cestlavielife · 23/03/2018 23:18

18 months first tooth. Completely normal

EmmaGrundyForPM · 23/03/2018 23:21

Ds1 didn't get a tooth until he was 14 months. It didn't occur to me to take him to a GP, I just thought it was normal. All his teeth came through fine.

Mar19901 · 23/03/2018 23:27

DS only got his first tooth last month as 20 months. if you are worried take him to your dentist for a chat. I didn't have to with DS as he is already under Paeds with his long term health problems.

SJCV · 24/03/2018 20:40

DD was 15 months old when she first got a tooth. She was also very late to lose her first milk tooth (as she kept telling us, she was the only one in Y3 who hadn’t lost a tooth yet).

I always saw it as a good thing - less worry about brushing as a baby as there were no teeth to brush and by the time she started getting her adult teeth she was old enough to take excellent care of them.
