First immunisations

My ds2 had his first immunisations today we are 4 weeks late. Due to the snow we had too reschedule so he is 12 weeks instead of 8, not sure that Is relevant but thought it put it in any way.

So his temp has been reasonable at 37.5, had his 3 doses of calpol but he has been really unsettled all day. Every time I move him he screams, he cries in a really painful way and just wants to be on me.

What side effects did everyone find their wee ones suffered from with the 6-1? It's the crying when I touch or move him that's really getting to me. It's like his muscles or bones are hurting.

He is normally the most content baby. I'm just wondering wether I need to nip him to the drs or not if this continues. Also wether or not people continued to give more calpol of fever &/or unsettledness persisted.

Ok so temp is 38.5 now just given another dose of calpol and will check in 20 mins or so if it's come down otherwise it will be a call nhs24.

It states before 3months that a fever of 38 and above should be a call to a glass d over 3months a temp of 39 he is 4 days off 3 months. I'm so not cut out for this stuff e stunting makes me worry,

Sorry if Iv worried you both. My advice take someone else with you,it's nice to have a bit of support.

DD had her first ones in November. Nothing much in terms of side effects apart from some red and I think a sore upper leg for 2 days. That may be what's hurting your LO? They get the same as we do from the flu jab and other ones.

FWIW she didn't get anything from her next doses at all .

Spam88 · 22/03/2018 07:54

No problems with the first ones, but she had a temperature still the next day after her third lot.

Tinysarah1985 · 23/03/2018 20:05

My girl was fine after all hers but if you feel worried give thr dr a call. Any half decent doctor won’t mind at all.

nomorespaghetti · 23/03/2018 20:12

My little girl really suffered after her jabs, except for the second set, randomly, but including the one year ones. High temperature, sleepy, super grumpy and upset about everything. Wouldn't eat after the one year ones. She just seems to have a bad reaction. All back to normal after a day though.

Do call 111 or gp.if you're worried though about high temperature. They can get you in to monitor and check over.

My little one had her first lot about 3 weeks ago. She's generally a chilled happy baby and other than a bit of a cry (likely from the shock) she wasn't too bothered when she had her injections. I gave her the Calpol as recommended.

At first she was just very sleepy that day. She's have shorter awake times and sleep longer, I guess because her little body was doing a lot. She didn't develop a temperature until probably 12 hours after and after her last lot of calpol. She went up to 38.5 at this point so continued the Calpol for the night. She ended up having a temperature for about 5 days and it tended to spike in the evenings. We gave her Calpol if her temperature spiked to 38 or higher but otherwise left her to try to fight it off whilst keeping an eye on her.

I should point out that after 24 hours we did take her to see the gp who checked her over. Other than the temperature she was alert and fairly normal for her and the go said she was fine and to just bring her back if it doesn't go down or to go to a&e if it reaches 39 (we were heading into the weekend).

She did develop a little red raised mark at the injection site which went away after 2 days and is conpletely normal. We were just careful not to touch it incase it was a bit tender. The temperature was my biggest concern but she turned out to be fine.

At this point you know why there is a fever so I would continue with the calpol, until 3 days. If the fever hasn't shifted by then definitely go to your GP. My nurse told me after DD's first jabs that the Calpol box states 2 days as it would mask a fever which could be a symptom of something else, however you know what is causing the fever so its less to be concerned about. If it goes too high then call too. Be mindful about the temp of the room and what baby is wearing too, he may be more comfortable in a vest only for a while.

After DD's first jabs, she slept a lot then cried for about 6 hours straight. I'd never heard that cry before, a real distressed "I'm in pain" cry. The only way she would settle was in a vest in the sling, me with no top on. Skin to skin is good at helping babies regulate their temperature, so maybe give that a go.

If it helps, the 2nd lot resulted in no fever, just some runny poo. For the 3rd (it's the men B jab that gives them the fever) I gave Calpol 20 mins before and it helped immensely. Much less crying and no fever at all.

It's also worth remembering that his legs are probably quite sore. My arm always aches after a flu jab and he's had 3, with no frame of reference to understand pain.

If you are really worried call 111 just to put your mind at ease Flowers
