Recurrent stomach bug

My son, almost 6, is on his third bout of vomiting in 6 weeks. He does have a relatively weak stomach, but never anything like this.
It started on 3rd Feb with urgent watery dihorrea. It lasted from Saturday until Friday, coming and going.
Then he had similar dihorrea a couple of weeks ago.
Yesterday he had zero appetite and ate nothing (off school for snow day) complained of abdominal pain. He was up vomiting at 4am this morning. Mainly mucus I think.
Have phoned GP and got appt with (horrible) nurse practitioner this morning. I'm worried about getting the brush off. He can't keep going through this, and missing school. I can't keep staying off work.
I feel there may be an underlying issue. What should I be asking for?

How unpleasant for you both. Has he had a cough/cold that made him vomit mucus? If so, that may not be related. Otherwise, I'd ask about probiotics to help his gut bacteria recover, as it can take a while for it to do so after a bout of diahorrea/vomiting and certain foods (esp. milk), can bring the symptoms back on with a vengeance. Is he a milk drinker? If so, it's worth switching to Lacto-free milk for a week or two to give his gut a break from dealing with lactose (a temporary intolerance is common after D&V), and treat with a daily probiotic (something like this www.amazon.co.uk/OptiBac-Probiotics-babies-children-Sachets/dp/B0015X566O/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?keywords=optibac+for+children&tag=mumsnetforum-21&ie=UTF8&qid=1521536457&sr=8-1

I’d ask for a stool sample to be looked at and the CRP blood test which checks for inflammation. I’d also maybe be asking for an antibiotic and a probiotic to be used after. And I agree with the pp that you should cut lactose out until he’s fully recovered as its quite common for an intolerance to occur after a bug that lasts a few weeks/months. It can cause things like mucus, diarrhoea and sickness.

Thank you. He's not a big milk drinker. He does have some every so often. Hasn't since school lunch on Friday.
No recent cold, so the mucus worried me.
Will ask for tests.

Horrid nurse practitioner man. I had to really insist on getting stool sample sent off. Trying to say it was totally normal. I work in the bloody school! I know what normal is.
Anyway. He eventually checked him over. Well have to wait and see.
Thanks all.
