How long is croup contagious for?

DD came on with croup last night, its the 4th time shes had it in the last few months.

She doesn't handle breathing illnesses well so we took her into a&e and after the single steroid dose and a bit of time with nebuliser she was fine again.
Today shes coughed about once an hour which is fairly standard for her and its not croupy sounding anymore.

Does the symptoms being gone mean shes not contagious if I take her to toddler group tomorrow or should I wait a certain amount of time?

I didn’t think it was contagious at all, my brother used to have it and it was caused by asthma which obviously isn’t contagious

Croup is not contagious, the virus which triggers it is but it would not necessarily trigger it in another child.

It's contagious to other children for around a week, iirc. Don't take her to playgroup!

I didn't think it was contagious? I thought it was triggered by other viruses too. Dd can have the slightest sniffly cold but it always leads to croup.

I'm fairly sure it isn't contagious - isn't it basically a cold but which turns into croup if you are susceptible to it?

CockOffPostmanPat · 18/03/2018 19:52

It is usually caused by a cold virus I think, so I'd take her if she's up to it.

My sympathies - Dd is prone to croup and it's miserable.

Not contagious , it's just the reaction to the virus for certain children (mainly based on their immune)
