Fluoride toothpaste or not?

I've been brushing my baby's teeth for the last month or so. I used to be dental nurse many many moons ago and from what I remember I shouldn't use any toothpaste when they're this little (he's 9 months) because they can't spit out and the fluoride they swallow can adversely affect their teeth development amongst other things. The health visitor, however, has given me some high fluoride toothpaste and said to use that. I'm a little dubious as previous advice I've been given from HVs has been questionable, but, on the other hand, my knowledge is likely to be well out of date by now. Anyone have any thoughts??

NHS guidance advises using a smear of a fluoride toothpaste. I probably wouldn’t want to use a high fluoride toothpaste, I just bought one that said it was for babies and had fluoride in it.

You should use a smear of toothpaste with at least 1000ppm fluoride up to age 3. When they are 3 you use a pea sized amount

HV told me to use family toothpaste for the fluoride but like you I didn't want my DC swallowing it so I used toothpaste by Colgate or aquafresh made for babies. I've changed the toothpaste according to age. Their teeth are fine! The dentist is always impressed when they visit.
