So my newborn had the baby 'mot,', "and being referred for a scan for right clicky hip

How accurate is the initial test..? If found on scan what's the next step.. Is it likely to heal itself or need help x

My youngest daughter had a loose hip found at birth and was referred for a scan, scan showed it was immature but not enough for treatment. We had a follow up X-ray later on and all was fine and still is.

My older daughter had stiff hips found at a health check by a nurse, I was told all was ok by the GP and later discovered (at 3) that she had hip dysplasia and needed surgery.

Moral of the story is - it can go either way. If they decide she needs treatment then it's lucky they picked it up early as it can be missed.

My DD was breech so we were referred automatically. At our 6 week GP appointment the GP said she could feel a click on both hips so we were worried. At the scan (which is ultrasound) both her hips were completely clear! The sonographer said that lots of babies 'click' as their joints are settling and it's particularly common in girls - something to do with your hormones being passed on!

Try not to worry too much, not many babies end up having treatment for hips, and the clicking doesn't cause them any discomfort at this stage. Good luck!xx

Both mine had clickly hips at the newborn test and both were clear at the scan (their dad had congenital hip dysphasia so I was surprised they were clear to be honest)

My eldest got referred.
Had scan and all ok but click could still be heard.
Had to go back for an X-ray when she was older and was walking pretty much at that time.
Click could still be heard but discharged as no issue x

You'll have an ultrasound and possibly leave in a pavlik harness or not depending on what they find. If you do it isn't the end of the world as they are amazingly effective.
It feels like the end of the world though at the time.
They may find perfect hips though!

Risk factors are female first born and breech. Also family history.
