All 5 children have this rash on their bodies, runny nose and eyes, seem run down, sore throat. Doctor booked for 4.30 (we have to go in the side way just in case!) so just asking for opinions.

Is this measles?

Oh sorry it's not really visible on the photo but it's like tiny red dots all over them.

Have they been vaccinated?

Can’t really tell from picture but could it be Scarlet Fever?

Docs will know for sure. Good Luck!

Luckymummy22 · 06/03/2018 14:03

Again you can’t really see in the pic but this was my sons rash when he had Scarlet Fever a few weeks ago. Dad also had a rash and signs of it (treated for it without actually seeing GP)

Is this measles?
Ohyesiam · 06/03/2018 14:16

I would say not.
I treated lots of kids with measles in India, which is a slightly different strain to the UK one, and it didn't look quite like that

AnaWinter · 06/03/2018 14:18

Unless you’re anti vac they would have been vaccinated against measles as part of the program.

franktheskank · 06/03/2018 16:08

They haven't been vaccinated, allergies.

It does look a bit like scarlet fever actually but looks more red than that pic. They're complaining about their mouth hurting I've looked inside and can't see any spots but they're sore on the corners of the mouth and eyes are streaming.

And oldest three have been complaining of headaches.

Looks more like scarlet fever than measles to me as there are no raised spots or lumps. Hope the doctor goes well, I can imagine a whole house full of poorly children is very stressful indeed Flowers

eddiemairswife · 06/03/2018 16:27

With measles the rash on the face is blotchy, while the body rash is spotty. Usually a runny nose a couple of days before the rash comes out.

ForgivenessIsDivine · 06/03/2018 16:38

If it is measles, vitamin A significantly reduces the incidence of complications. ..

gussyfinknottle · 06/03/2018 16:49

Is there any point asking why they aren't vaccinated.
Keep them away from me, I am immunocompromised and have never had measles.

Spam88 · 06/03/2018 18:00

gussy she said because of allergies

Ohyesiam · 06/03/2018 20:05

Lots of kids who have been vaccinated get it. Happened in my dn s school. Out of the 12 kids who got it ,9 were vaccinated.

franktheskank · 06/03/2018 20:30

It's scarlet fever! They are ok in themselves except the second eldest who is suffering Sadgot some medicine and keeping them inside for a few days they should be fine. Thanks for the help x

Worst thing of vaccinating against this is that people may get it when they're older as the immunity from the vaccine wears off. And then it's much worse and more dangerous.

Not sure whether it's measles or not. Though it's probably best to assume it is.

MyRunMyPace · 06/03/2018 20:49

kikibo, what are you talking about? 'The worst thing about vaccinating against a potentially serious disease is...'...? No, I can't think of a reasonable and informed ending to that sentence.

Are you thinking of chicken pox by any chance?

shewolfmum · 06/03/2018 22:40

Yes kikibo i agree

gussyfinknottle · 07/03/2018 08:28

"Glad" it is scarlet fever and not measles. Obviously both are pretty horrible to have and to nurse.
I'm sorry your kids are unable to be vaccinated and that I was too quick to assume you were one of those non-vax idiots who regularly appear on threads like this.
Like me, you rely on herd immunity to keep you safe. Sadly, some of the herd don't get that and put us all at risk.

shewolfmum · 10/03/2018 19:28

Oh my...how your wee ones are better now. That herd that are all over 30 and completely exposed with no immunity will keep you all safe. How rude gussy. I know doctors, scientists, pharmacologists, and hippies who don't vax. Anyway good health op.

franktheskank · 10/03/2018 20:22

They are fine, second eldest was most affected but he mostly slept, they were given medicine by the doctor but they just spat it out so only kept it up for a couple of days and they seem to have recovered without it Smile
