How long would you expect to wait for blood test results?

Just that really.

Blood test (blood count) done at hospital on Thursday and nurse said to contact GP today if we hadn't heard. GP surgery hasn't received any results.

I know it hasn't been long. Can a long wait for results mean bad news or am I worrying about nothing?

Might just mean that people couldn't get into work because of the weather and so there is a backlog, or even computer systems have been down. Flowers

Certain results take time because of the nature of what they are testing
Some small hospital labs don’t have the facility to test for everything and send to other labs
And of course the weather may have had an effect as well

I suppose it could be the weather.

The person I spoke to at the surgery said perhaps the results had been sent to the consultant. We're not under a consultant. We were referred by the GP. But then I wondered if results go via a consultant if there are concerns?

A couple of weeks ago (ie no snow) ds had bloods done on Wednesday and they were through the following Monday evening. He did have a couple of things picked up, but nothing major.

Full blood count (if that’s indeed the test) only takes an hour or so at the lab. If it turns up deficient and they need to do a blood film then that light take a day or so more, but that wouldn’t delay the initial blood count result).

Results then need to get verified and processed. In non-urgent samples that light take a day or so depending on the lab/system.

Delay is unlikely to be due to severity. Probably because of a lack of staff due to weather.

Thanks for the reassurances.
