Fluorosis

Hi everyone. Sorry this is long winded! My eldest daughter is four in June. When she was 19 months our family dentist told us to use adult toothpaste on her as the kids stuff doesn't offer enough protection so we did as we were told. A couple of months before she was three we saw a new dentist who told us she was fine to carry on using it but to ensure she always spat it out which from that day she did. For the last nine months I've been worried sick her adult teeth are going to have really bad fluorosis from that time we used our family colgate on her. She obviously couldn't spit it out at that age and I didn't know about only using a smear, I always used a small pea size. I really don't need to hear any horror stories about people's teeth as I've had terrible anxiety over this. I feel horribly guilty that I've done something so wrong for my little girl when all I've done is try and protect her teeth. Any reassurances to set my mind at rest would be greatly appreciated.

Unless she was eating tubes of the stuff then i wouldn't worry at all. You can use adult strength for children quite safely

Try not to worry, we got given fluoride tablets as kids as we lived in a non-fluoridated water area, plus we used adult fluoridated toothpaste, as kids toothpaste wasn’t really around then. Both my sisters and I have teeth that are fine and none of us have fluorosis.

Thank you so much for the replies, I feel better already just reading them! We only used a tiny bit as a baby then when she got more teeth we used more but never more than a pea. We never brushed more than twice a day and don't have fluoride added to our water so I'm hoping apart from us using the slightly stronger toothpaste, we havnt done much different than anyone else has

This is an old thread, but I would like to ask how your daughter's teeth are.

I am having similar concerns about my son and, although I know I am overreacting, I am freaking out (a little).
