Are these nits?
I’ve noticed them over the past couple of weeks, particularly behind her ears.
I’ve done a full comb through every section of her hair twice this week and haven’t seen a single live one.
She’s also not itching and when she had nits before she was scratching lots.

Is it possible it could be dandruff?

dementedpixie · 25/02/2018 12:43

Could be empty egg cases from a previous infestation. Can you pull them off the hair attends?

dementedpixie · 25/02/2018 12:43

Strands*

LockedOutOfMN · 25/02/2018 12:44

Yes, they are. You can get rid of the ones in the photo by drenching the hair in cheap conditioner and then combing through it meticulously with a very fine tooth comb, wiping and rinsing the comb after each pass. However, you also need to check if she has any eggs near or on the scalp as they'll need to be treated with Hedrin or Full Marks or similar.

TheQueenOfWands · 25/02/2018 12:44

Those are empty, dead eggs.

If you've combed and found nothing I wouldn't worry. Looks like the problem solved itself.

Headlice don't like/thrive on some people. Weird buggers.

WillowWept · 25/02/2018 12:44

Looks like nits to me

dontknowthesedays · 25/02/2018 12:48

Here’s another photo. I’m checking again and no live ones.
The bits pull out quite easily. She was last treated 6 weeks ago with hedrin. Could they be empty cases?

Full cases are darker whereas empty ones are white. As they are further down the hair shaft I would assume they are empty cases from when she last had head lice

ChipInTheSugar · 25/02/2018 12:50

Those are empty cases - looks like the Hedrin did its job!

dontknowthesedays · 25/02/2018 12:54

Ah great. I’m 3/4 way through her hair again and not a single live one. Hopefully they’re just empty old ones!

dontknowthesedays · 25/02/2018 13:07

100% no live ones.
I keep expecting these eggs to hatch!
Just got her hair full of detangler and did every single piece with the nit comb.
Must be old ones! Thought they would have fallen out in the last 6 weeks but obv not!

OP posts:
dementedpixie · 25/02/2018 13:11

They're glued on so won't just fall off naturally

dontknowthesedays · 25/02/2018 13:12

Am I meant to pull them out?! Literally thought the hedrin would cause them to un-stick!

LockedOutOfMN · 25/02/2018 13:21

Conditioner and fine combing should at least get them much further down the shaft if not comb them out completely. But yes, as a previous poster said, they are stuck/gripped to the hair so won't "fall" out automatically.

dontknowthesedays · 25/02/2018 13:25

Just seen the nitty gritty comb advertised which apparently removes live lice and eggs and empty dead eggs so have ordered one.

Eggs can stay glued on for at least 6 months.
