Born with teeth!

Has anyone's baby been born with "teeth"? My 3rd boy, when born had 2 little white dots on his lower gum. No one mentioned it when he got his checks done in hospital.
About 2 weeks after he was born the little white spots began to grow and was erupting from his gums. They grew so quickly and looked massive in his tiny mouth.
We were told they were natal teeth although the doctor or dentist had never seen anything like it before.
They were very soft and quite loose. It was decided the teeth would be removed to reduce the risk of them coming loose and he inhaled them.
The dentist literally just took hold of the teeth and pulled them out with his fingers.

Anyway... My son is now 15 months and was quite late at getting his teeth. He currently has about 9 (some not fully through) but he does not have any teeth in the front lower gum, where these original natal teeth were. Dentist did say there shouldn't be any problems with his baby or adult teeth but I'm beginning to get concerned now.

Anyone else has anything similar?

Richard the Third did! (Sorry not helpful)

Yes this happened to my cousin's baby, although at the time she was told that baby may or may not grow baby teeth there and there could be a possibility that they would be missing until adult teeth came through. However, they did grow in so no missing teeth. Hope the same happens for your little one! Maybe ask your dentist again.

My son was born with a tooth. He was checked out in hospital for the aspiration risk but it was firmly in the gum. I saw my lovely dentist soon after who referred us to the dental hospital and they were happy. Was wierd cleaning a newborn’s tooth!

He’s nearly 6 and it’s the first tooth to fall out. Because of your post I’ve looked in his mouth just now and can’t see or feel anything erupting...but he says he can feel something under.

Sorry just reread your post - all his other baby teeth came through fine.

Billstickers was the tooth like a "normal" tooth. My little boys were very soft. More like flesh. If I ever knocked it slightly during feeding it would cause my son pain and would sometimes bleed.

Yes it was like a normal tooth, just very stained and yellow (from antibiotics I think)
Initially the doctors thought it would come out but it was quite firmly in.

Your experience sounds different. Have you got a good dentist or GP?

Unfortunately not Bill. My doctor had never came across this before and had no idea what it was to be honest and the dentist was pretty much the same. He had never seen it before. I think I need to get an appointment for the doctor and take it from there.

An Xray will show what teeth are in the jaws, waiting to come up.

I don't think they had more ch choice but to remove them if they could be pulled out with fingers as they would have been a chocking risk.

What is the dentist saying now?

I was born with teeth!! They fell out. I was the subject of someone's masters thesis!

Hi I wondered if you could update what happened with your son, did he get teeth where the natal ones were removed from? I’m currently going through same thing!
