Discontinued around 5 years ago.

I used to give this to fussy eater DS2: www.amazon.co.uk/Floradix-Iron-Vitamin-Formula-Liquid/dp/B000Z971W6?tag=mumsnetforum-21 but it was often a struggle because it's pretty awful tasting and you can even detect 5ml in a glass of orange juice.

Weird! My link didn't have "tag=mumsnetforum-21" on the end when I copied and pasted. Cheeky sods!!

Hello

Thank you.

Oh bugger, why would they discontinue something that is good for kids?

Ive tried the Floradix and I agree, pretty nasty tasting.

My son doesn't eat fruit at all and maybe has 5 slices of steamed (yes, has to be steamed and not boiled as he can apparently taste the difference!) carrot a couple of times a week and he thinks this adds up to his 5 a day, lol.

I have ordered Vitabiotics Feroglobin Liquid and amd praying he will take it.

I had been sneaking a sachet of Spatone into his drink maybe twice a week but Im not really sure how much iron he would be getting from it.

this is a good product for fussy eaters and has good doses of all the vitamins and minerals. You can usually get it in health food shops or Amazon.

lazydog · 23/02/2018 17:04

viiswi I'd assume it was discontinued because of how dangerous it is for kids who haven't been diagnosed with iron deficiency anaemia, to be given too much iron. They replaced it with a product with pretty much the same formulation, just minus the iron. Has your DS been diagnosed as deficient? (My son was identified as being "slightly anaemic" when his blood was being tested for another reason.)

Hello

He had a blood test and it was one number below the normal range.

He was given Sytron(?) but it didnt agree with him - terrible wind and poopy accidents. We were told to give it for 1 month but he can't tolerate it.

Sounds like the same sort of level as my DS. I used the floradix - it did the job, but he didn't enjoy the process much, lol! I think Spatone is meant to be pretty effective in cases of mild anaemia, but not sure if you're meant to give it to children? How old is your DS?

viiswi · 24/02/2018 09:47

Hi

He is 8.

Spatone is OK for kids 2 and over but it tastes like rust.

i think i may try half the amount of Feroglobin as then it would be half the recommended daily amount of iron. DO you think that would be OK?

He won't have the chewable tablets, he wants gummies, but they dont do them with iron.

The apple flavoured Spatone is much more palatable, have you tried that? I understand the vitamin c in the apple juice also aids absorption. It's worked brilliantly for me before when I was anaemic and couldn't stomach iron tablets. No horrible side effects for me either.

Hello

The child does not like any fruit or veg. He's a total nightmare.

He can even taste the difference between boiled and steamed carrots.
