Reflux help

Ds was diagnosed as having reflux by the hospital at 10 days old (we took him down after he stopped breathing before being sick - was terrifying). They just observed him and sent us home with very little help, just get on with it. He is gaining weight so is obviously keeping some milk down.

However he’s now throwing up after nearly every feed and it’s projectile style. He’s unsettled and seems to be constantly hungry. When he does bring milk back up it’s always silently and there’s no pattern to when.

Any tips for dealing with reflux? Already trying to prop his Moses basket mattress with little effect. Trying to wind him loads, keep him upright after feeding... nothing seems to help.

We were prescribed baby gaviscon and he’s taking well to that :) can see an immediate difference as the few feeds he’s had without it the spitting up has started again.

I found infacol made reflux worse because of the orange taste - citric acid I think maybe.

Gaviscon was a lifesaver for us. My LG used to projectile 4-5 times a day. I kept her upright for her feeds and also held her upright for 40 min after feeds.

Reflux wedge under Moses basket etc. Looks like you're doing everything right but maybe push for some gaviscon to start with.

OP I have a Moses basket wedge if you would like it? I don't mind posting it.

I would be willing to pay the postage! Currently got a towel under the mattress trying to tilt him.

I'll try to figure out how to send a PM and I'll post tomorrow if I get the chance :)

I had the same problem with my DS. I was prescribed gaviscon by the GP at his 6 week check. I was considering switching to formula at the time so decided to give anti reflux formula a go before the gaviscon and it worked a treat. We used cow and gate for info. I just thought it was best to try all options before considering medication.

I also propped up the Moses basket but just stood one end of the stand on a couple of books.

Unfortunately my DS spent most of his first month's covered in sick as I quickly learnt that even changing his clothes was enough to make him sick so stopped bothering changing him as much. The other advantage of anti reflux milk is that because it is thicker it doesn't soak through clothes as much so I just used to wipe it off.

I used muslins like body armour for me, especially during burping. I used to burp him by holding him upright with my hand on his chest and thumb/fingers supporting his head as I found this kept him as upright as possible and avoided a sick down the back situation. Oh the memories!

He rapidly grew out of it from 6 months and probably hasn't been sick since 9 or 10 months. He's 17 months now.
