This is my first post on here so thanks in advance for any replys! My little girl was born on 03/02/18 - she is perfect! She's been such a placid baby so far breast feeding really well and no health issues, but she has been distressed tonight and worrying me Sad - she developed a red swollen eye last night, with a lot of yellowish gunk oozing out which is sticking her eye together. It started off not red or swollen but by this morning it's now red in the corner by the tear duct and puffy. Any advice? Do many new borns develop this and is most likely conjunctivitis? The health visitor is due tomorrow so I will ask her for advice and if I should book a doctor appointment - I'm just worried about how quickly it's got so swollen and because she is so young and my first. I have used my breast milk (recommended by the midwife to clean her eyes) and cotton wool pads to clean it but as soon as I do the gunk comes back and I feel like I'm irritating it even more. Just need some reassurance!!
Thanks x

Morning OP - take her to the GP this morning, they don't mind seeing babies if you're worried Thanks

Dd had this when she was tiny. I squirted (gently!) breastmilk into her eye so it completely bathed it. Breastmilk doesn’t hurt at all, and within 24 hours it had cleared up. Try that, and book a drs appointment if you’re still worried.

Thanks - I will try bathing it I'm going to book the doctor in the morning - even though it seems impossible to get an appointment atm!!!

Could be a blocked tear duct, but I agree, go to the GP

As some one said above.... breast milk and use cotton wool..wipe from duct out. Call midwife rather than GP.
