Ds is 5, first spots came out on Saturday, then he was ok, well in himself.
Today, loads of spots and he is flagging, can't be bothered, lethargic, looks poorly but eating & drinking ok, kindle is entertaining him.

So far, calpol & piriton, showers, calamine lotion, drinks and nice stuff to eat.

Anything else I need to do/know?

Mine preferred warm baths with bicarb in them - nice and soothing. calamine made their skin more dry and itchy.

You may already be aware of this but neurofen makes chicken pox worse so medical advice is to avoid using this.

Poxclin mousse is much less messy than calamine and lovely and cooling to soothe the itch and prevents scarring. Not cheap but worth it. Both my kids had a right good crop of spots but emerged virtually unscathed.

Agree with PP Poxclin is way better than calamine. Easier and less messy to apply and soothes immediately. DD and I had chicken pox at the same time so we used the same.

Virasoothe instead of chamomile

I was also going to recommend Poxclin!

Thanks very much, I will get some. He really doesn't like the calamine.
And thanks, I did know about the ibuprofen and chicken pox, remembered it then nhs choices search confirmed it for me.

Yes to baths with bicarb in it, mine had several a day when they were poxy. It helps with the mind-numbing boredom too...

Used Eurax on my boys, definitely stopped the itching

Comealongpond89 · 29/01/2018 15:29

When in the bath, put oats in a sock and tie the end. Then get it wet and squeeze over them like a sponge. Yy to no calamine lotion. Dd came out of it with no scars
