Strange urine/dipstick

My dd (7) suffers with daytime/nighttime enuresis. She is also under investigation for monthly urine infections. We have just had a renal dmsa and she is now on nightly trimethoprim. We haven’t had results of the renal scan as they won’t tell us until her next appointment in March.
The GP has given us our supply of dipsticks to keep a close eye on UTI’s. We have also had to up her water considerably and school keep a water diary for us.
I have dipped her urine as I suspect a UTI is on its way and the s.g densite result really concerns me. Am I right in saying it is showing she is dehydrated?

I'd read that as nitrites positive so infection and TBH I've never taken the blindest bit of notice of specific density on a dipstick.

The most interesting bit for you is going to be nitrites and leucocytes.

Thanks, @MummySparkle. It’s so frustrating yes.

Thank you @AnnaMagnani
The weirdest thing happened. I tested another sample early morning one and no nitrates, but this time the leukocytes looked trace. I’m hoping that maybe the antibiotics (nightly one) has seen it off. Will keep checking and get her in at the Drs if sample still iffy. She's not unwell with it so not overly worried. Just made me think about the hydration and possible kidney issues.

How’s she doing?

Bear in mind that the colours darken with time. It should tell you how long after sampling to look at the result. Looking longer after it than that can make negatives look like trace positive.

Bowwowjangles · 02/02/2018 07:07

Ah thanks @prettymess
Oddest thing, the next day it was negative. Still showing dehydrated, but the morning sample showed negative for nitrates this time. Given that she didn’t have any symtons really I assumed the daily antibiotics had cleared it off.
I will still discuss the hydration with Alder Hey and see what they say. Might give us a clue to what the issues are.

I did think that @nocoolnamesleft but this was instant.

Touch wood the daily antibiotic has kept it at bay. Which is a huge plus as normally they would develop into full blown infections.

Urine infection back - full blown, bright pink nitrates and other bits and bobs. Drs have sent it off to be grown as she’s already on the daily antibiotics.
Could pull-ups cause frequents uti’s? They’ve told us while she still has daytime and night time enuresis to keep her in pull-ups at night.
