Itchy vagina

Hi guys my 3 and half year old daughter has recently started going toilet herself (she wipes number 1 but I wipe number 2) but now is itchy all the time 'down there'
I've checked and there's no redness or rash and the doc gave some cream which isn't helping at all.
A few weeks ago she always would need to go pee almost every 5-10 minutes which I read can just be a phase (she's stopped doing it now) since only a couple of drops would come out.
Any suggestions of what it could be?

Could be a UTI or a sensitivity to washing powder/bubblebath/soap

It could also be habit, or she might be rubbing for pleasure. We noticed a few months ago that Dd was scratching, asked her about it and with a great big smile she announced it was tickly and felt nice. We then had an age appropriate chat about it.

The symptoms from a few weeks ago sound like a UTI which has now passed. Hate to tell you, but itchy bits in girls, with no symptoms of thrush, can be a symptom of threadworms....our household is itchy bits before itchy bum.

Do you actually mean vagina? Important to use the correct terms - esp if you end up at the GP!

Ahrightsoted · 25/01/2018 07:19

Any chance it's worms?? My dd was driven nuts with itching and I thought maybe it was thrush. Took her to the gp and when he had a look he could see a worm. I was mortified. But they are that age where they are constantly putting their fingers in theirs mouths.
Whenever she says now she's itchy I give her the medicine just in case

ellnina · 25/01/2018 10:47

Ah ok now I'm a bit freaked about worms. I had them once as a kid but can't remember much. Can you actually see them on the outside?

When the gp checked her urine there was no sign of uti and he also had a look down there so he would have noticed worms, right?

My first thought was worms. I took my DD to the docs with an itchy vagina and he saw works right away. Horrified. But they just aren't very hygiene conscious at that age

Solo · 25/01/2018 10:54

I thought worms too. She could also be sensitive to the type of toilet paper you have as this happened with my Dd when younger.

Solo · 25/01/2018 10:56

My Dd was itchy at night one time and I had a look myself and saw a worm at the entrance to her vagina. Your GP probably wouldn't have seen any during the day as they are more active and come out at night.

ellnina · 25/01/2018 10:59

Solo ok thanks for that. She's very itchy during the day though, like constant scratching. What do you do with the worm? Pull it out?

Yes! With a cotton bud.

try changing the loo paper brand - non-bleached maybe.

Puppymouse · 25/01/2018 11:29

DD 4 was itchy down there. Was the start of a uti. I'd get her to the GP.

Ahrightsoted · 25/01/2018 15:16

Every time my dd has had worms she's itching Day and night and sometimes only itchy at the front. And there are not always easy to spot. I have given her the med whether I have seen them or not because she now knows if it's worms itchy or normal itchy Blush

ellnina · 25/01/2018 18:32

I've had a look and still can't see anything. Also only itchy in the front

Why? will the GP smack OP for not saying vagina/vulva Hmm

Sittinonthefloor · 25/01/2018 20:13

No, but itching up your vagina is a bit different to itching on the outside! I'm sorry it's pedantic I know but I've done so much safe guarding training and the correct use of terms is (or sadly can be) really important, it's a reflex reaction. Hope the dd is feeling more comfortable.
