Chicken pox or not?

Hi Mumsnetters
Can anyone advise please. .my DS currently off pre-school with what they say is chicken pox. It started with a sore throat. He's not feverish, just pale, and has lots of energy although slightly off his food. He has a small number of spots dotted here and there from his face to his feet ..no more than 10. I'll take a photo of one. I'm in trouble as I don't have enough leave at work left to cover half term now that i've had to take this week as leave so i'm wondering should he be off pre-school? He seems fine!.. Not like he's got chicken pox at all. How long does it take for symptoms to show? I thought it was 2 weeks. We thought it might be that he got it at a party at the weekend but surely that would be too soon for it to come out now?

Would really appreciate any help.
Thanks xx

Not all kids seem really ill with chicken pox. They also don't need to be covered in spots.
Your leave situation isn't relevant. If your child has a contagious condition they can't go to nursery.
Are the spots fluid filled? Google some images and see if they look similar. Is CP doing the rounds at nursery? The party could be a red herring. You can pick up illnesses anywhere. Supermarket, library or a play date.

Unfortunately it’s irrelevant whether you have enough holiday or not, if he’s got chicken pox he can’t go to pre school.
My two had it before Christmas. DD1 was plastered in them and very poorly, DD2 had 6 spots and wasn’t poorly at all.

And he could have picked it up anywhere.

If it's chicken pox count yourself lucky its mild!

Hi all, thanks for your msg's and advice. It's a weird one as they're not really fluid filled but some tiny ones have scabbed over and others just coming up. He says they're not really itchy so need for calamine. I had it when i was 20 and it was like flu with high fevers. DS has none of this, just a bit of a cold. Maybe it will get worse but yeah i guess i'm lucky if this is all he gets!

Lots of children don’t feel ill with it at all, DD2 didn’t. Not even a cold. I was relieved as DD1 was really really poorly with it.

I only got 6 spots when I had it as a child. My dd1 started with a few, but within a few days was covered and miserable. I got my younger dd vaccinated. Partly as it was horrible and also I admit due to annual leave!

It's weird how some get it bad and others it's just mild. I had it when i was much older and it was totally debilitating and it took 2 weeks to come out. Spots everywhere and v high fevers. DS totally opposite ..so far!!
Yes Cottonsock, so annoying re. Leave. I don't get half enough to cover all the pre school hols and DH's employer has to be the worse going. When my mum passed away a couple of years back they refused to let him take time off to look after our son while i was in hospital watching my mum die. How's that for a caring employer then? ! Would love to name them. So anyway him taking time off just isn't an option and i'm just thankful my manager is very nice!
