Constipated baby

DD2 is 7 months and over the last couple of weeks or so has become constipated. She's still pooing every day but they are small hardish poos and her stomach feels quite firm.

She's bf and feeds every 3-4 hours, and every 2-3 hours over night Hmm

She started solids a month ago and it's definitely related to that. She has a mixture of puréed foods and finger foods, mainly fruit and veg but also toast, cracker bread, bread sticks etc. We offer her food 3x a day - the amount she eats varies. She also has sips of water throughout the day.

I've just given her a tummy massage and she passed a hard poo Sad

Her sleeping is terrible at the moment, wondering if it's all related.

What else can/should I do?

My 10 month old is the same since weaning. He goes quite purple when he poos! Not sure it's bothering him apart from the straining. I will be interested in any answers here!

I find rubbing a bit of olive oil in their belly button helps them pass wind and relives the pain slightly. Might sound odd but has definitely worked for my kids!

Forgot to add that some camomile tea helps so much. Just a small amount but let the tea bag sit for a while then give it to your baby. Really helps too. Smile

We had some success with prune juice and syrup of figs (not at the same time!). Eventually went to doctor who prescribed Movicol but it all resolved itself of its own accord as soon as I'd picked it up!

Ella's kitchen pouch "prunes prunes prunes". Half a pouch and BAMMMMM I regretted it every time 😂 I haven't yet met a baby it hasn't worked for!

We used to gently raise her knees up towards her tummy and down again, also gave a little fresh orange juice.

Thank you

DD1 is in movicol daily and has issues with pooing, we've had to do all yhr above but her issues are more mental as she withholds

For DD2 I'm wondering if I need to up some things in her diet or cut back on others? Maybe I can avoid this being an issue before it becomes one?

Or is it genetics?? I've had bowl problems too as well as other members of my immediate family.

Constipation definitely can run in families...

Passionfruit always works a treat did mine.

If she’s having plenty of liquid and fruit and veg I can’t see that it’s your doing. Her body might just be taking a while to adjust.

Oooocrikeyitscold · 17/01/2018 04:07

I agree with the advice on the prunes. Works a treat for me and DS1.

Seems like it maybe hereditary....

Best to get her checked with the doctor.

I suggest Brown sugar in boiled water. Leave to cool right down and Add a splash of squash
