Torticollis and head tilt

Hi everybody,
My baby is 19 weeks. At ten weeks he was diagnosed with torticollis and plagiocephaly. I paid to see a cranial osteopath who really helped with the torticollis he can now move his neck freely. I’ve also seen an improvement in the plagiocephaly. The only problem now is he still has a very noticeable head tilt. His head tilts to the left. I’ve been seeing a physio who’s gave us some excercises to do but I’m not seeing an improvement. I’m really worried. I’ve read online some stories about babies head tilts never getting better. Does anybody have any experience on this? Or know any babies that have had this? Any advice would be great thank you.

My baby had torticollis as a result of a sternocleidomastoid tumour (basically a benign lump) in her neck. We saw pediatrics at the hospital at 8 weeks who referred us for physio. Now at 8 months the physio has referred us back to the hospital as although there has been a massive improvement it hasn't fully resolved and as you say can lead to long-term issues if not sorted. Physio says that sometimes surgery is necessary.

In view of that I'd suggest you go via your GP for a referral.

Awww I’m sorry to hear that. I’m currently seeing a physio through my gp. Does your baby have a head tilt?

No not a tilt just the lump is still there and apparently that can stunt bone growth.

Your physio should request a referral if they're concerned?

My youngest had a head tilt, she has congenital scoliosis and macrocephaly and was breech too, she was about 6/7 months before it went. We did the physio exercises too.

Thanks for your reply. I’m glad to hear it went away. My baby can freely move his neck and the physio said the torticollis has gone it’s just the tilt that Won’t go. Feel like my days are me constantly worrying about doing the excercises and stretches. How is your lo now? X

I know this is an old thread and I'm sorry for reviving it but @Courtney I'm just wondering how your little one is getting on now? I'm in the same boat with my son - he's 15 weeks old, his rotation is much better, but his head tilt came back during q growth spurt and I can't get rid of it no matter how many exercises he does! Any advice? Thanks!

Hi, I know this is an old thread (and can see it's been revisited once before) but can anyone tell me whether their baby's head tilt was resolved? My 17 week old daughter has this, she has been to an osteopath and we have had contact with a physio who has given us exercises to do at home, but would like to hear from someone who has had the same issue and came out the other side. Thanks!
