My baby boy is 5 months old in a few days. For the last week he has slept less and has woken up more at night than he used to. He is exclusively breastfed. He seems to be getting worse and it's gone from just night to daytime a bit too. He just keeps getting very twisty especially if laid down in his cot and he seems to only want to be held in a stand up position. However I keep noticing him biting down on his bottom lip and earlier he got my finger and normally bites on it but he was rubbing his gums this time. He also chews on his hands and loves his Sophie the giraffe. I'm just not sure if it's trapped wind or teething it feels like the start with him all over again. Please help and if you need more info or anything then please ask me ! Sadnot sure what to do with him.

I always find 5 months is about the time they get more alert and cosleeping goes from being a huge benefit to a huge negative for us both. It usually takes me till 7 mths to pluck up the courage and move them out but within 2 days every time they've slept through (3 different babies) despite waking up 5-10/night in the bed with me. I think around 5-6 mths you just start disturbing each other.

As for teething/wind, you'll probably never know. But if baby is miserable I'd try a dose of calpol to see if that makes a big difference. That will tell you if it's pain/teeth.

Good luck!

We don't currently co sleep he won't even lie next to me and I'm not sure calpol will work

If it's teething calpol will help. I agree they become much more alert at this age which can affect sleep.

Their sleep cycles change around 4 months out of the newborn phase into longer sleep cycles. Do you try and settle him at night without the boob?

Calpol would fix teething so you’d know if that fixes it

Babies do not sleep well - it’s part of them being a baby
