Hello

My daughter is complaining about a sore throat and she has a couple of white spots on her tonsils.

Do I need to take her to the GP?

We've been to the GP loads this past month. Son had tonsillitis, then I had flu, son and youger daughter had a nasty virus. Then we all got sickness and the poops on Christmas Day, but we didnt go to the GP for this.

Thank you x

White Spots suggests tonsillitis or another bacterial infection. Either get her to GP tomorrow or call 111 and get an OOH appointment.
Antibiotics should work quickly so hopefully she’ll be feeling much better soon.

Sounds like she has tonsillitis too. Keep an eye on it, if it’s not getting better by the end of the week or getting a lot worse take her to GP.

Make her gargle with salt water.

Thank you so much for replying so quickly.

The funny thing is she doesn't have a temperature! (yet)

Definitely tonsilitis if your son has had it. It's been going around in my area too, loads of people I know have had it. They don't usually give antibiotics for tonsillitis, you just have to ride it out but it can take a few weeks. I personally wouldn't bother going to the GP for that as usually all they will do is tell you rest, keep hydrated etc.

My DD suffers from tonsillitis a lot. Dr told her (to her absolute delight) that she should eat ready salted crisps before bed. Same thing as gargling with salt water but much more palatable!

Works a treat.

Oooo, ready salted crisps are her favourite!

ive just had a look and there seems to be just the one blob. I wonder if it is a tonsil stone or just early days for the tonsilitis to develop.

Shall I poke it to see if its a stone?

Keep a really close eye on tonsillitis. Whilst it usually will go without antibiotics it is worth checking up on quinsy on the nhs website to know what to look out for.

Will do.

Thank you

Hello

I have an update!

My daughter sneezed last night and a bit of the white lump fell out of her tonsil! It was the size of a pea.

She then managed to push and more popped out but unfortunately, she swallowed it - yuck.

Do you think it was a tonsil stone?

xx

Yes, must be tonsil stones, they wouldn't fall out if it was tonsilitis!

Hello WatchTheFoxes

Yes! So strange!

ALthough she still has "teenager flu" lol
