I'm currently trying to get a doctors appointment for my DD.

For about a month and a half now, I've noticed that what used to be a birth mark on the back of her neck has become very red, dry and obviously itchy. When I first noticed it, I assumed it might be a reaction to laundry detergent - emergency circumstances meant I brought different stuff to normal. I immediately changed back to the original brand and also put E45 on her. The patch cleared up, so I dismissed it as the new brand of detergent and rewashed everything in Fairy non-bio and never thought to bother the doctor.

Since the temperature outside fluctuated so wildly, it's back and it's worse and appears to be spreading. It's not the laundry detergent, it can't be - but it's scabbing over she's scratching it so much. E45 isn't really helping at all now. I'm trying to stop her scratching, but she's 1 now - she won't keep scratch mitts on and short of physically pinning her down, she won't stop.

I have been wondering if nappy rash cream might help her, until I can see a doctor and actually get it looked at and diagnosed.

Has anyone else experienced this? Has anything you've used brought temporary relief while waiting to see the doctor? I've been told that short of OOH, I will probably be lucky if my appointment is before mid-January.

I can try and get a picture of it if she sits still long enough.

It's very red, angry-looking skin with a patch of dry flakes in it. About the size of a £2 coin maybe.

The spread has brought out an oval patch just below it that is just red skin, as if something has rubbed against it. This patch does not appear to bother her, it's the patch right in her hairline that is causing the problem.

Try Aveeno cream. Boots sell it. E45 made my son's eczema worse! His was also affected by temperature.

Could it be psoriasis? Flaky round patches on the skin. Itchy, red and dry?

Caenea · 28/12/2017 07:11

Fitz Good tip, I'll try and lay hands on it.

Manon - that's exactly what it looks like. It's very rough to the touch and feels slightly raised too, whereas I always thought excema came with spots? I may be wrong on that, I've never had it or seen it up close.

Sounds like psoriasis :( you can get certain creams that help out with it a lot, but you can't cure it! I've had it for about 5 years, just randomly came up out of no where, and it doesn't seem to go unless I'm in the sun!

It's worth seeing a pharmacist if you can't get into see a GP very soon.
