On holiday and dd is sick

Hello,

Am posting for reassurance as I kinda know with my head that dd is fine but do have mild health anxiety so am imagining horrors, especially as we’re on holiday in a house in a small town in Spain so away from usual reassurance and known medical options!

Dd is 10, she had a sore throat a couple of days ago which turned into a heavy cold yesterday, last night developed a temp, no thermometer so don’t know how high but def hot. Today the temp has continued, comes down some way with paracetamol but responds better to ibuprofen. She’s been up and around the house today chatty but also tired and obvs not v well. Eaten very little but has drunk some. She took herself off to bed an hour ago and I just checked, she is still quite hot to touch but her feet, although in socks and under the covers are cold. Googling cold feet and temperature is coming up with some scary stuff!

I have been here with both dds before and I know this is par for the course but my anxiety is running away with me- I need some calm reassuring words please mumsnet.

I'm no medical expert but the fact that she's been awake in the day, chatty and eaten and drunk something are surely all positive signs. Plus you know she has a bad cold, so doesn't sound like some mystery unexplained illness.

Hope she feels better soon.

Thanks for replying, it’s ridiculous how easy it is to turn temperatures into meningitis or whatever- in my head. She just woke up and told me it feels heavy on her back, halfway down, so will worry about that now! Wish I could be more relaxed about these things- manage it outwardly but never quite seem to get a grip internally.;

With you having health anxiety, it wouldn’t hurt to get her checked over if it would put your mind at rest.
I’m guessing you have all your travel insurance etc

Yes we are insured and if she is not improving it worse in the morning I may take her. I generally have enough control over the anxiety not to be at the gp for most things, just battle with it and it’s good to sometimes have people tell me something is normal, in this case that cold feet with a temp is common, their dc have had the same etc etc, helps me reality check.

My kids always get cold hands and feet with a fever - it's because the body is concentrating the heat at their core I think. It's one of first ways I can tell they have a fever without a thermometer.

Cold hands / feet with fever does NOT always mean the fever is indicative of a serious problem if that's what you're worried about?
