WWYD? Possible croup

DS used to get croup quite a lot when he was younger but hasn't had it for a couple of years now. He did on one occasion when he was almost 2 have to go to hospital with it but was OK every time after that, just with the noisy cough.

The last couple of days he's been acting a little bit poorly, nothing too serious, but off his food and sleepy. He's woken up with a croupy cough this morning but doesn't have a fever or anything I'd be anyway concerned about. (He's now 9.) I thought croup was supposed to be one of those things you grow out of as the throat widens, so have put it down to the house being dry from several days all shut in with heating on not opening windows etc. He's also had a nosebleed which again hasn't happened for years but supports the dryness theory. We've had him in some steam, drinking hot tea etc to get some moisture in there and it does seem to be getting better, but not disappearing completely. Google seems to suggest a contagiousness period of 3-5 days if it is croup, though.

The problem is that our friends are coming to stay tomorrow with their toddler who is 22 months old. I had thought nothing of a cold and wouldn't have mentioned it to them but now I'm wondering if it's possible croup if this is something that they might want to be wary about.

Unfortunately, they're flying so they can't simply postpone the trip to see if he feels better, it would have to be a total cancel and they would lose money. WWYD? I don't want to freak them out if it's nothing/just an ordinary cold, but of course I don't want their child to get ill either, especially in a foreign country.
