What is this rash?

Can anyone identify this rash? 16 month old has a rash all over his body. It actually appeared on his torso yesterday but most of it disappeared when I got him out of the bath so I thought it was a heat rash.
It's quite bad now and seems to be everywhere and seemed to be at it's worse in the bath again.
He seems his normal self though he was sick as he got out of the car yesterday (quite a regular occurance) and as I was getting him to sleep last night he was really scratching/rubbing his head which he's never done before.

What is this rash?

Presume you've done glass test?

IDoLikeAReindeer · 22/12/2017 19:25

Looks like it could be viral to me. Are they otherwise well? Temperature, aversion to light, eating and drinking normally?

jimmyjammyjumbo · 22/12/2017 19:26

Mine always come out in rashes when they have a virus/fever, I always get worried it is Meningitis but it always passes the glass test and once I took dd to the gp and she just said it’s viral.

Slowfeetquickfeet · 22/12/2017 19:28

Did the glass test and yes it seemed to go when pressure was applied.
So what does it mean if it's viral?
Is it something I should call 111 about?

DH is away and it would be xmas weekend so obviously can't just get a normal gp appt.
He was with my MIL today and she said he actually seemed happier and more energetic than usual

Assuming it blanches... (If it doesn't, A&E)

My DS has very similar rash when he came down with hand foot and mouth - "viral rash" the doctor called it... Faded gradually as the blisters were coming up

jimmyjammyjumbo · 22/12/2017 20:51

Keep an eye on him but generally if it’s simply viral there’s not a lot you can do ie. not cured by anti-biotics so they would just send you home anyway. Keep an eye out for any obvious changes/signs of going down hill, but presuming he seems happy in himself o wouldn’t worry about seeing a doctor myself.

IDoLikeAReindeer · 22/12/2017 22:22

If he is okay and 'normal' for him, then I would monitor. Keep an eye on temperature and general well being. Trust your instincts, if you feel he's unwell call 111/walk in centre/out of hours GP etc.
Medical professionals would always rather see a child than not so if you feel it's appropriate take him in. You know him best, if you're worried he's unwell take him to see someone.

Yes looks viral could be roseola but we never found out all the time for us...only take if non blanching and child seems very poorly.
