Bedwetting 4 and a half year old - practicalities

Hi, I'm really stuck with what to do about my son's bedwetting. He's 4.5 and never been dry. For ages we've used reusable bedwetter pants because the pull ups are expensive and didn't work well. He wees a lot, can soak the sheet, duvet and pillow and for ages the reusables worked but now they're not working so well and he's soaked with wee anyway.

We try periodically to go without for a week to see if he's becoming dry, and when he's 5 will see the school nurse and gp etc but in the meantime I don't know what to do with all this wee and washing!

Is it worth getting some other sort of reusable night pants that might work better? That way I only have to wash those. Or do without but have to wash pjs, sheet, protector and duvet every day? Up until now I've washed the whole duvet once a week and the cover when it's wet but there has to be a better way surely?

He's a big boy, in 6-7 clothes so normal nappies are no good, plus he fiddles so much that's half the problem.

Help!

I used the lowest tog single duvets plus fleece blankets because they all fitted in the washing machine. I also used a smart price shower curtain instead of a mattress protector because that just needed a wipe with anti bac spray. So it went shower curtain then fleece blanket (so didn't feel horrible) then fitted sheet then child then summer duvet then 1 or 2 fleece blankets. I had double sets of everything.

That's a fantastic tip about the shower curtain! We had a wipe clean sheet that I used to later similarly but the cat did a poo on it! Aaargh! I've been trying to find another as we have the Ikea one but it has to be washed every time. Why did I never think of a shower curtain?! Thank you.

We also use washable bed mats that wash and dry quite easily but also do the thin duvet or just the cover + fleece blanket.
