Hardly breaking news but my 21 month old just vomited, her sister has had a sickness bug so it's clearly doing the rounds. I've cleaned her up and got her off to sleep and I'm happy to leave her in her room with the monitor on whilst I'm awake and can regularly check on her. I think when I go to bed I should sleep on the floor in her room, my DH (her Dad) thinks this is OTT and we'll here here over the monitor as and when she's sick again even if we're asleep. I'd just like other people's opinions please.

I'd have them in the same room as me. No question.

Maybe I'm pfb but I still bring my 7 year old into my room on a blow up bed if she's been vomiting, I worry about her choking as she often sleeps on her back.

ShowOfHands · 15/12/2017 19:49

My 10yo comes in with me during vomiting bugs so if you're pfb, I'm ridiculous.

My DH always thinks it OTT if I bring the children in when they're sick but I would definitely still do it. I'd be so worried that I wouldn't hear them in the night otherwise.

One of us will sleep in our daughters room is she’s vomited

lizabes · 15/12/2017 19:54

Totally reasonable to want her in the same room as you but maybe putting her in your bed is more sensible than sleeping on the floor

Thank you for all your responses, sounds like I'm not being daft. Bringing her in bed with us would be more comfortable but I'm thinking of the washing involved if she's sick in our king-size bed as opposed to her cot! I've already got washing coming out my ears after the last couple of days so I think I'll take a bit of discomfort over even more to do!

Your bed, lots of towels. Good luck!

afrikat · 15/12/2017 20:39

I always bring them in my bed, keep a bucket handy for the first signs of more vom and put down several layers of towels which can get whipped away if needed. Apart from the potential of choking, if they are on their own you are pretty much guaranteed them chucking up all over themselves/the bed if you're not there to bundle them to the loo quickly so it's way more clean up.

ShowOfHands · 15/12/2017 22:11

Yep. Layers of towels and whip away a layer and wash. If my DC have a vomiting bug at night, they're likely to look for me and not a toilet/bowl (although they're pretty good when awake). That can mean vomit anywhere between the top of a bunk bed and the short trek to our room. In the same room and you get a few seconds' warning to get the bowl in place, plus they get the comfort and reassurance of a parent while ill.

Flannel cot sheets are very handy for this. Your can lay them over the top of the duvet. Easier to wash than towels.
I would always sleep in the same room unless they are a few years old. If you have a mattress you might get a better night's sleep than having her in your bed if you are not used to it.
